  2. Red diesel has been low sulpur, the same as white for about 2 years now. If you buy from somewhere that has regular supplies you will be getting low sulphur red. I reckon gas is much dearer than diesel for heating.
  3. A. Yes if the socket is switched on. B. There is always a fire hazard should a component fail and overheat. I would recommend always to switch off or unplug any phone charger when not in use.
  4. I was at Alrewas today 3.00pm (Boxing day) & the Trent level was just in the Yellow. The sign said 'Proceed with Caution'. The Trent wasn't flowing much faster than normal.
  5. As Frangar says this place is the cheapest I've seen. Back in the summer it was £17.50 for 13kgs. I think they refill from a bulk tank which keeps the price down.
  6. That works out at £21 for 5 litres. I don't call that reasonably priced.
  7. I don't understand why these bikes require an oil change in such a low mileage. Is it because they have a small sump? Most modern cars run camshafts direct in alloy heads and they will run for 150k miles + with 12k miles oil changes using supermarket oil.
  8. This is a very common filter, I get mine from this link. Very quick delivery and post free. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OIL-FILTER-ROVER-400-HATCHBACK-1995-WL7212-/221047862947? pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33777ab6a3#ht_2865wt_932 Wix WL 7212 is the direct equivalent of Mahle OC269. £ 5.49 inc post.
  9. Not true ! Today I have been in Wilkinsons where they are selling 'Everyday oil' 20/50 in 4.5ltre cans with no spec. at all. Says suitable for older cars. This is possibly recycled or a base oil.
  10. The only Maclan 25 I 've heard of is a GRP cruiser & had a Volvo Penta engine.
  11. The supermarket budget oils you are referring to do not have any specification on the can, just the viscosity eg 20/50. Any oil with a specification on it will meet that spec. I doubt if any reclaimed oil would meet the very high specs. that now abound. Any oil that claims to be suitable for use in a turbo will definately not be reclaimed. I have run my my cars and the wifes on Lidls oil for the last 8 years. I've done over a 100k miles of hard driving including a lot of towing on my present car and only change the oil at 12k intervals so I think the oil is very good quality and definately not reclaimed. I'm told that Lidls oil is made by Aral in Germany.
  12. Perhaps you would be kind enough to share the part no. for the benefit of other Barrus owners. Which build no. are you fitting it on, 05, 06, 09,11 ? I,ve just found an old Barrus RDG 5795. It is marked Virgis V05 MLC. (CH05) on the filter. Barrus had stuck their own label over this no. on the box ! 105 mm. OD.x 65mm. ID x 290 mm. long, one end is blanked off.
  13. Dean,I assume your cooker is free standing, BSS would class it as portable and would require a hose. If your cooker is a fixed installation you can use fixed copper.
  14. I've been running my Barrus Shire 45 on 15/40 API CD own brand oil I bought in France from an Auchan Hypermarket for €8 for 5 litres. Its now done over 1300 hours and runs as sweet as a nut. Good enough proof I'd say. The Lidl's oil has the same spec. as all the major brands but I would not reccomend it for narrowboat use.
  15. 119808-12520 is a Yanmar part no. I think only the early/ smaller Barrus engines would have used this type. All later engines were fitted with a Virgis filter assembly which had a slighly larger filter element. (Barrus part no. RDG 5795)
  16. This is a top spec.oil & too good for an Isuzu or or any other canal boat engine. I use this oil in my own car & now done over 100k. miles with no problems. You need an oil without all the additives & modifiers that a modern car engine needs, so this is why 15/40 API CD is specified.
  17. I had problems with the original pump on my Barrus Shire 45. The engine would run fine but would cut out sometimes when the tank was below half full. It obviously was not pumping and the engine was running on gravity feed. I replaced it with a Facet Posiflow pump for £30 And had no further problems after 1200 hours. The original pump was a Chinese UShin which are well known as troublesome . A pitty Barrus spoilt a very good engine with a cheap and nasty pump. http://www.facet-purolator.com/posi-flo-pumps.php
  18. Midland Chandlers sell a replacement sump pump washer (1" OD) http://www.midlandchandlers.co.uk/Catalogue/ProductDetail/sump-pump-washer-leather-?productID=73148f22-fd24-4a3d-bf50-404127780ddd&catalogueLevelItemID=6b677fa5-c5a6-4fbc-b44e-8b06e70375fe
  19. This manual is for the 09 series Barrus which I think is fitted with a Delphi HDF 906 spin on filter. The earlier 06 series had the 296 filter, the OP has stated that he has this type.
  20. I don't think the make is very important but changing it and checking for water in the fuel regularly is. I use Delphi HDF 296 because they are reliable and cheap. Your problem has not been caused by the filter but by water in the fuel. The filters have done their job in stopping the gunge entering the injection pump. A good maintainance regime is the key.
  21. I was told that Barrus use a re-badged 296 filter. I understand that the Delphi HDF 296 to be the industry standard.
  22. I assume you mean the Barrus supplied primary filter on the engine. This filter is after the electric fuel pump so any gunge would have to pass through it to reach the filter. The gunge may be causing trouble in the pump, they are not very gunge tolerent. You need a fuel filter/ aglomerator ( CAV type) between the tank outlet and the pump, preferably below the bottom of the tank and close to the outlet. You could disconnect the pipe from the pump outlet where it goes into the primary filter, place in a container and switch on the ignition. Run off a few litres and see how clean the fuel is.
  23. Do'es anyone know a generic part no. for the Shire 45 secondary 82 degree thermostat. The Barrus no. is RDG 5766. Barrus prices are out of this world, i'm sure it must be a standard vehicle part. Thanks
  24. I've changed the oil in my PRM 150 today and I can confirm that the drain plug is 22mm AF and the filler is 18mm AF.
  25. Arthur, I wasn't accusing you or any one individual of 'moaning'. It was aimed at those who moan for the sake of moaning but don't actually want to do anything themselves. Sorry if I have caused you any offence. I think generally the volunteers do a good job. If anyone doesn't want to be helped through locks, they can always politely refuse the offer.
