There are a few of us waiting on the Marple side waiting to come through and another boat arrived today canal is filling slowly and temp dam and stop planks still in place -

Found a lovely spice shop in Stone just across from the t&m canal he filled my own spice jars with organic herbs &spices of my choosing .It was so easy only had to pay by weight-buy as little or as much as you need

Looking to buy a new narrow boat that is 60 ft long and was wandering if anybody has been successful in getting a 60ft boat up or down the huddersfield broard canal or as far as sowerby bridge have been that way before on my 50 ft boat and didnt want to miss out traveling it again by buying a boat thats too big

I have rearranged the pipes to the coil on the tank to give a hump on return pipe higher than the inlet hope this stops the thermocycling.Also spoke to the man at the chandlery in Middlewich and he suggests to stand any vertical tanks on a piece of insulation topped with 6mm ply to stop heat being lost out of the bottom that will be my next job

thanks alan i am going to try and make a rise in the outlet side above the inlet as i have enough lose pipe rather than disconnecting and changing the pipes over see how that works

thanks for that i will try and change the pipes over at the moment it flows into the top and out at the bottom .i was thinking that a none return valve might stop the flow and didnt want to buy one just to find it didnt work .will keep you posted on progress

Was wandering weather to fit a non return valve like the ones fitted to water taps to prevent back feed to engine as the hot water cools down overnight even if i have not used any out of the tank since stopping the engine. Would like to have shower in the morning without starting the engine. Where would be the best place to fit the valve on the pipes from the engine to the coil on the calorifier which is vertical

thease conectors are used in the auto trade i have one on my pump i got for the central heating that fitted a vw try a scrap yard now you know what you are looking for

came through the lock today and the men are moving in to replace the lock gate on monday

think you have had enough bad luck without that happening always a worry when leaving your boat anywhere i usualy stop around for a couple of days to suss out the area before leaving but not everyone has the time to do that

tiling shower - how do i make sure it is waterproof

i have always done my showers with a tile effect lino very quick and never leaks and warm to the touch when in the shower on those cold days -
A LITTLE TIP to stop that kettle burning dry or burning the stew make your self a pot stand out of three pieces of small alluminium or copper pipe and link them together with a piece of wire to form a triangle to use under the pot or kettle works a treat like having a simmering ring

thanks for telling us the truth about Maplin washer it has put my mind at rest not to bother i will stick to the bucket and spinner

i use a bucket and soak the things over night and my spinner is very useful have been thinking of getting one of the tub washing machines from maplin but dont know what they are going to be like, anybody got one, dont want to spend £50 on rubbish but my spinner was the best thing i got for doing the washing

how thick is the ice between stretford and lymm i am up in castleford its melting here and the trip boats are breaking it up between here and waters meet was hoping to get back to lymm sometime this week before i get a letter from peel for overstaying

i used silicon sealant and layed down a thick bead it stopped mine for a bit found most of mine was condensation are they heating pipes just above

canal now open tuesday 24th jan but mooring on this stretch is limited but the shed is still at the top waiting to fall down tony

stoppage between bridge 200 and 201 offside bank slipped down to canal bringing trees down with it on thursday night

thanks for that i dont get much noise fron it only when the wind gusts and it rocks and somtimes falls over

Just bought one of the vertical wind generators from Maplin seems to be going fine with all this wind. Didnt want to bolt it to the roof just use its magnetic base any sugestions how to make it stronger as it sometimes blows over.Would like to remove it when not windy and when i leave the boat

with the price of gas going up like it is you are better to get a solar panel and some led lights i have just ordered a set of xmas tree lights that are solar powered to see how bright they are the mantles are expensive as well and the only way to get a gas lamp to glow bright and my lights dont have any flame fail device so the boat safety man gets upset and i can see one day will come when i will have to remove them
