  1. Hi all, We're looking at buying a 1974 Harborough Marine narrowboat. Does anyone have any thoughts on their reputation as a boat builder? She is of course old and we want to make sure she's been built to last. Similarly, the current owner has told us that she was built with 6mm steel and has been surveyed & shows little pitting. 6mm seems quite thin to start with to us (our current boat - Colecraft 2007 - has 10m, 8m, 6m) does anyone have any thoughts on that? Thanks, Caroline
  2. Hi, I have just tried to clean out my water strainer as per this thread - http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=44681&st=0&p=826623&fromsearch=1entry826623 - and now all the water coming through the tap is full of the black bits from the filter. Any ideas?
  3. Thanks guys. So to clarify, it appears to be called a strainer (the top one here http://www.shurflo.com/marine-products/water-system-accessories/water-system-accessories/default.html) I have taken the top off & cleaned the metal mesh however that didn't seem too dirty & I'm not sure if I'm meant to clean the other half. That part is full of little bits that look like a key part of the filtering process. I can't see any leaks & again there seems to be no further information on this from Shurflo. Also, my strainer appears to have been installed the other way up from that pictured on the Shurflo website - though it has worked fine at least for the last two years
  4. Thanks for all your thoughts & comments. I went for a few coats of PVA followed by the flexible adhesive & grout. Looks ok for now & fingers crossed!
  5. My Shurflo Aqua King water pump has started running constantly. The water pressure continues to be good so I'm assuming it can't be an airlock but must mean I need to clean out the filter (as per trouble shooting guide) but there are no instructions in the product manuals or on the Shurflo site on how to do this. Do I need to drain the whole system first & what then?? Would be good to hear your thoughts or if you know somewhere with more information on this.
  6. Hi, I have recently found water seeping through my tiles next to the shower. I was going to replace the grouting but discovered some of the wood was rotten and had to strip all.the tiles off. I want to make sure that when I replace them I don't get the same problem again. Any advice on an ffordable waterproofing treatment/products/techniques?
  7. Thank you all. Some great tips. The solar pumps do look like great value. I will keep the pump on, though I am tempted to disconnect the system & just go with the simplicity of an eco fan...something for the future perhaps.
  8. Hi, I have been told that if I have a fire when the pump for my back boiler is not working. I think they said the water could boil over & cause a problem. Is this true? The pump uses a lot of power and I would like to switch it off while we are in front of the fire, only turning it on before we go to bed in the other room, but I do not want to damage my pipes.
