  1. No you'll just be left hanging over the side while the prop re-designs your feet. It could work though, if instead of working like a seatbelt it could be attached to the engine stop, then if you did go overboard, the engine, and therefore the prop, would stop almost instantly. And to allow you to move away from the boat it could be fitted with a shear pin to disconnect you from the boat. Better still avoid getting chucked in in the first place. Edit. Actually the more I think about the idea of the engine stop, whilst agreeing it's possibly a bit overkill, I've found a couple of other reasons. if you go overboard and the engine is then stopped, your boat isn't going to go very far before coming to a halt, also if you are on the back on your own then the engine stopping will alert anyone else on board that there is a problem.

  3. Impeller not frozen up?
  4. Just for the record here is the reply from Fernox regarding the use of their products in engines of any type and the mixing with anti-freeze in central heating systems. Not really surprised, but was worth an email none-the-less " Thank you for your email regarding engine cooling system treatment. We regret the Fernox Protectors are not suitable for use in automotive cooling systems, primarily due to the higher surface temperatures and also the non-oxygen barriered rubber hosing used within the cooling circuits, which leads to an elevated dissolved oxygen level in the circulating water. Also, we would not be able to assume compatibility with the antifreeze treatment currently employed." [Applies to blue/green or red/purple antifreeze]. Andrew Upton, Fernox Technical Services
  5. Hope you fit them securely otherwise you may return and find they've been borrowed!
  6. Perhaps not as daft as it sounds, but not knowing the height above water I don't know if it would be possible to nudge it open, then once through reverse up and close it? From the other direction could you nudge up to it, attach a rope, then pull it open whilst in reverse, then once through use the rope to close it? Never having been there this could be complete bo**ocks but I just know someone will tell me if it is
  7. Can only agree, what I've asked is whether it will mix with either blue/geen or red/purple anti-freeze without damage. And whether there are any benefits, I wouldn't have thought so in a modern fast revving diesel but there might be in the slower revving older diesel, if they are prone to a build up of gunge in the system, I don't know, are they?
  8. That's the way I understand it to, but just as an exercise I have emailed Fernox to ask whether it wil have any detrimental effect or benefit when mixed with anti-freeze within a central heating system or diesel engine coolant system for that amtter. Can't see a benefit in an engine myself, but it might be useful in a Full C/H system on a NB like an Aldi. Wouldn't have thought there would be a need in a pumped or gravity fed M/F C/H system.
  9. If you are getting sealed batteries then surely the maintenance problem is resolved and they can remain on the swim. If you move them you will need some really hefty cables to charge them and/or to get the power back to your electrics which presumeably are distributed from the engine hole. If you are anywhere near Oxford 'vince1969' sometimes has 115 ah leisure batteries @ £25 each.
  10. Looks like an offside private mooring, might be of interest if only for that.
  11. Thanks for that 'Nickhlx' just the sort of info we needed. Have you looked at the link :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT I posted earlier and if so what do you think of it, taking the price into consideration? I'm tempted to buy as it has 3mts of cable which would suit my needs. My present aerial only has 1mt so I use a 3mt USB lead which means the dongle hangs just below the cabin roof, and gets in the way and I just know someone will walk into it and drag the laptop onto the floor, me probably John
  12. Ooh er, missus Found the poll for the first question, can't find the poll for the second one though

  14. That's the same as my spare, free from '3'. It dosen't have a CRC9 connection. The one I use on the boat does but I can't remember the model No: sorry.
  15. This has a 3mt cable and terminates in a CRC9 connector suitable for the Huawei dongles. Not sure if the frequency range is correct though, although it does state for 3G mobile. I thought 3G was 2.4MHz. Hopefully someone who is more conversant with Mobile B/Band will help? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  16. For some reason your link won't work, but yes it's the same one. If you look down the ad, you'll see a list of dongles it's compatable with and other info. The dongle shown is an example only. I'll have a look around and see if I can find an extention cable, I know they are available, as I have one.
  17. 3 refers to the 3G mobile wifi network. The dongle shown is a Huawei. Some of them, like phones, may locked to only accept an '02' SIM, not sure about that though. The cable length is aprox: 35"
  18. Bl**dy hell, and they charge £60- £70 squid for em too, what a rip off
  19. £15.95 inc: P&P Not exactly the same as the one I bought last year but very similar, works a treat. This one is for the 02 network but can't see why it wouldn't work for '3' or 'Orange' etc: Just need to check that the connector will fit your dongle. You can get adaptors if not, look on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Antenna-3G-Broadband...=item5ad610f2cb
  20. Plenty here:- http://www.midlandchandlers.co.uk/BUCKBY-C...OWLS_B28EQ.aspx
  21. Agreed, also as someone said previously, and early post to find the owner would have been helpful.
  22. Seem to remember on a previous post the the difference between the caravan & boat versions was different materials, steel used in the caravan version but brass or bronze in the boat version. Dont ask me exactly which parts, but assume it could be the bearings?
