  2. People with stoves already do have to access NBW........in the lighting process.

  4. Really good, thanks for posting.
  5. Hardly clever, first time I've done it and it took about an hour to sus it out. Good memory is the key. (mine that is, not the computer)
  6. Good of you, I'm sure that will work.
  7. Bet you checked the number of exclamation marks............I know I did, ?
  8. Do hurry back, things haven't been the same without you.
  9. Looks a tidy, well maintained boat to me. Particularly like the rudder shape, possibly an attempt to minimise cilling.
  10. Wouldn't imagine anyone thinking it might be below the water line but won't there be holes through the hull, right next to a splashing paddle wheel?, especially in astern.
  11. Interesting, thanks. Now trying to visualise how to make the slot/ holes for the chain watertight but yes, can see how the linked rudders would work.
  12. How is the drive arranged in a narrow boat type stern wheeler? Assuming something like a "Radicon" style reduction gear. Also, presumably the rudder blade only directs a part of the wash, is that correct? Do they steer okay?
  13. Pretty much what happens to mine, starts with the cold weather and then dries up by Summer. Yes, condensation.
  14. I think that more or less sums it up. I was more concerned with the forming of my own plate than RCD regs, so mine was built to BSS requirements. I too have not heard of a prosecution under the five year rule and believe it would probably only come into play if an unscrupulous builder tried to foist sub standard shells on an unsuspecting public.
  15. Forgot to mention in my above post, there's also a rule concerning self built boats that you may not be aware of. In the case of a one off self build, it's illegal (not absolutely certain that's the correct term) to sell the said boat within a period of five years of build date. May be worth checking and taking into account.
  16. I built my own 55' tug style. Did it to my own plans and worked mainly at weekends and in fair weather. I did find it took longer than I originally estimated but then I did start a little late in life. If I could turn back the clock I'd probably have done things differently, would likely have bought a sound boat that needed restoration and gone that way. Immensely satisfying but don't underestimate the amount of work. The only other thing I'd say, as the majority of work is in the bow and stern, do think carefully about the wisdom of building a "short" boat. A mid build photo...
  17. It's a scientific fact that all boats increase in size when you're trying to steer them through a small gap.....
  18. Yes, most likely not but the furthest one looks coarser than the nearer one. When you have them out, just hold the threaded parts against each other. Good luck with the repairs...
  19. Probably the angle (and no self respecting engineer would do it) but those look like they could be different threads. If you are stripping it, make a note of their place, until you can compare.
  20. This is me penning down through Bulholme about 18 months ago. Not 100 percent but don't think it still has the second set of gates. Read somewhere about this lock being surveyed with a view to increasing its dimensions.
  21. ? It's just I don't automatically think "handrails" when they're so far from the cabin sides. Mine are right at the edge and you could keep hold of them, to stop from taking an early bath. When so far in I always think "don't forget to let go" to avoid a broken arm/wrist.
  22. Lol, when I woke up this morning my first thoughts were "you're going to be particularly thick today" glad I was right about something......
  23. Ah, okay, so temporary handholds? Got it. The more I look at it, that could be an early Les Allen, not keen on those raised bow and stern coamings but has the makings of a nice boat.
  24. Fairly regular "blocks"? As soon as I try enlarging the image I lose resolution. Nope, have to give in.....
