  5. Drag fatso out of the tunnel apply gas axe and leave remains as a warning. Bit like the French have done with crashed cars.
  6. My saab 96 1972 vintage had no heated rear window, but headlamp wipers and washers. More strangely it had a heated drivers seat fully automatic. Clearly the hot blooded saab drivers couldnt care about what was behind them.

  12. Just sold this hovel. Washing machine is in the shed. They are not moving in for a month. Moral dilemma going to be on the boat for 10 days before off to Oz. if I leave the washing powder should I keep the key and do a sneaky. ( asking for a friend)
  13. Missed out the wow factor in the equation. The one thing that is unquantifiable and impossible to value. Both my last two boats very different both with some issues ‘wow ‘made the purchase. Neither were a logical decision, would I do it again oh yes.
  14. However he is now stumped. ( sorry). Is any of the boat floating? I ask this because we get stuck a lot, and we find rocking the floaty bit and pulling sideways gets us off usually. That can be even when the stern is a good six inch’s up in the air and the prop tip showing. Our unloaded underwater profile help of course.
  15. Hmm one man’s dumped boat is another’s left for a legitimate reason away from home mooring, while he goes and does something else.
  16. There is another aspect -heat. Our current set up 75 a alternator 330 ah system has to heat a 12 v marine calorifier. ( yes i know but its an h series and a tiny cabin). We never but the water heater on until the advrc has cut out, but once on the 30a it draws obviously heats the alternator too. A standard alternator is designed for short engine battery charging, not prolonged high outputs.
  17. we had switches on each battery bank and if the batteries were really low ( we could live a week between charging no solar in those days).would turn off a couple till we had been running for a while. Good excuse for a 9 hr day. depends how involved you want to be manual or automatic!
  18. We used to run a poly v belt biggest profile we could get with an hb3 , with custom made pulleys, on to a 110 amp alternator. We had 800 ah of leisure batteries. It was ok if we were careful to let the alternator charge for a while before winding up, (if the batteries were less than 60% ,) but a quick get away with revs on used to cause smoke and screaming from the belt. Worse when the ardvec cut in. we were changing the belt twice a year and using belt spray. The dust and mess from the wear was a big problem. If I had kept the boat I would have double pulleyed it.

  20. They also used to turn out mental health nurses in Northampton. Berrywood Asylum had a great reputation. Maybe the local raw material was of high quality. I recruited several Northampton trained staff whilst in Australia. They were much better than the home groan 😩 versions.

  22. Thats your profession not the locals believe me. After a lifetime as a psych nurse in 3 countries my view of humanity is as warped as my sense of humour. People are the same everywhere.
  23. Yep Northamptonshire has changed a lot since we moved up from Lunnon in 1987 to work at the ‘county asylum’ I used to cycle in from weedon every day. Northampton is so bad the only time we have been there has been to get our covid jabs in the last 6 years. . Northamptonshire has got so bad we have just sold up. 1400 new houses less than 2 miles from our village retreat has done for us. Lunnon commuting and the rurbanites who want town facility in a rural area have killed the fun.
  24. If you are working at northampton general there are miles of canals you can use within easy drive. Many marinas. When I worked at northampton we lived at weedon on the boats a lot. Getting in to Crispins was easy, but shifts at northampton general were bad as was st Andrews. If you are at that end billing aquadrome would be best where they have flood proof pontoons and resi moorings.
  25. Why will your solar charged batteries only be 12.5, on a laid up boat? They should be float during day (13.6 ish) and 12.8 ish when the sun goes out. We have the same scenario and simply have all batteries on the solar no load for 4 -6 months of the year. No issues starting the batteries were all at 13 .6 last year when i got back to the boat after 4 months away.
