  1. Hi All I am after some advice please regarding the setting up of my Mastervolt Ultra. First, is it possible to force the unit into equalisation mode as I could with my Victron that I had previously? Second, what are the ideal voltage settings for the bulk voltage? I have set the absorption voltage to 14.8 and the float to 13.25. I do not know what to set the max amps on either of the absorption or float or max times. Any help would be most welcome. (I have the Master adjust software) Regards Graham
  2. I have a leece neville alternator all be it with out the adjustable regulator. I have had "much fun" with it over the years and now know it well. It is an 8HLA frame with 140A innards. Leece Neville Model No 8LHA2070VA 1-2429-00MO 12v 140a Regulator – 8RG2112 Rectifier Block -MR6206 1567CM It is very easy to take apart as the back bearing is held in place in the rear housing with an o ring. The diode block is bolted in which I had to replace to unit as the diode are welded to the wires. Much harder than silver solder I was expecting. Regulator cost about £15 Diode block on aluminium heat sink about £35. Regards Graham
  3. My 2LW will not get above 40C on tick over, even fast tick over and thats with the skin tank shut off. After an hour it may crawl up to 60C on the canal, if I come to a lock it soon drops back to 40Cish. The only way to get it hot is give it a spanking up a river. I am sure the engine appreciates this treatment as it runs so sweet for the next 2-300hrs. Must be difficult to get a 4LW up to temperature in a small boat/yacht.
  4. Well that was quick. The manual I have does not give a clearance for the head. Only Cylinder blocks and heads and that is 31 1/2 inch above crankshaft centre-line.
  5. Before I go and find my manual the easy way to find out is measure the distance of the long studs to the head/cylinder joint. You need this as minimum clearance. Did this job on my 2LW a couple of years ago. Easy! Well it ended up easy after I worried my self about the job for a week or so. I'll look in my manual as it has all the clearances needed and get back.
  6. This geni runs on tiny (400cc) amount of oil. You fill it up to the level then start it. The oil is fed up to the top of the engine, cam and valve gear lowering the level in the base, sump. The sensor reacts and shuts down the engine. Watch the oil light and see it come on, revs drop and light goes out, revs pick up. Like you say, bad design.
  7. Les, love to know how you get on after topping the oil up. Graham (still running fine after six years, not the same hours as a taxi but I'd convert again!)
  8. When my eu20i was on petrol it started first pull every time, now its on gas it starts third pull ever third pull and has done for the last six years. Just have to fill (just over) it with oil at service time. Thats the kiss of death if there ever was one!
  9. I had very much the same with my gas converted eu20i. After changing the oil once it ran very erratic on initial start up, some times stopping. I just topped the oil up even though I had filled it to the level (top of the filler hole). Did this be leaning the geni back a little put small amount of oil in. Really was a small amount and all was fine. Got to be worth a try as it fixed mine. Graham
  10. Mike did you open the case or send it back to Merlin?
  11. That what I want, it to work like new, as it came out of the box. I wounder how many units have been produced?
  12. He wouldn't like this one. When I'm finished with it, it will work fine again. And from what I read that would be a great disappointment for him. Ho Ho merry Christmas
  13. Julian Thanks for posting. just confirms that I have been doing it right. Its tricky to do with the position of the fuses and the display but I am getting the Fr message. Just can not access the set up menu with out the unit locking up
  14. Yep, pulled the fuses and left it half an hour or so five or six times. This is how you do a factory reset (no mention of time to leave disconnected, just me giving it a rest). The fuses are now out and I'll try again in the morning. I wounder if I have some how accessed a 'secret' set up and now can't get out
  15. Well, I think I've broken my Smartgauge. I fitted this unit together with the Advanced Smartbank in 2010 and it has worked wonderfully. I've gone into menus and adjusted things to suit my changing requirements until today. Tried to get into the setup menu and the until locked up, could not change the display from 'state of charge' to anything else. Did the factory reset and until appeared to work fine, all be it with the default settings which do not fit my needs. Yet when I tried to gain access to the setup menu it locked up again. I have repeated this now five or six times leaving it may be half an hour between each reset. So its Saturday and Merlin are closed till Monday what do, I do apart from wait. Any advice would be most welcome. Graham
  16. If they can't enforce 5 days why do they think they can enforce 3? Just changing the notice will not make the problem go away.
  17. Its not just the cable but the interface as well. Wont post it because its a pain getting stuff posted back to us (no post box) but we are coming down you way middle next year, may be meet up and have a go then if not sorted before.
  18. We used to use Stoveglow and loved it. Only stopped when they changed the mix or some thing and it was no longer smokeless.
  19. Guess you know the problem, Remove injector get them checked. If nothing else it will eliminate them as the problem
  20. Find a river and give it some stick. If its going to clear that will do it. If it does not get the injectors checked. Well that's what I would do.
  21. Yes you have to use their interface. I did go to maplins with the question and he gave me a bit of kit and said this will do it. It didn't. This was for a comi multiplus. But same cable as your on about. Borrow one, steel one, last resort buy one, it opened up load of stuff to fiddle with.
  22. We use Homefire ovals at £13 for 25kg from the coal boat. It suits us and our squirrel but wish it was a bit cheaper, free would be best. I did once see a website that gave calorific value, may have been BTU of different smokeless fuels but cant find it now.
  23. Yes Watford open 24/7 now (stoppages excepted) Strange that Foxton used to be self operated in the winter(not 24hrs) until they invented volunteers. Now we are not to be trusted!
