  1. Thanks Peter, In your experience - does that mean the fuel supply has to have a header tank or feed pump to push the fuel in ?
  2. Being a stroppy old goat I don't have I/D. I have a paper driving license, kept safe at home. I have a passport too, but nothing with name address AND photo on it.
  3. A friend has acquired this stove cum calorifier from a barge in Holland and wishes to know more about it. Its a Kabola OD 7 E , 8.5kw output which consumes diesel. I can't find anything like it on the Kabola website. I assume it needs a power supply, but whether that would be 12 / 24 DC or 110 or 240 vac who knows. Does anyone recognise it ?
  4. Has it always been this oily ? Or has the oil recently appeared ? If the latter, perhaps a gasket has failed.
  5. Had lunch in the Boat at Stoke Bruerne today. They are taking the measures seriously. One way system, lots of sanitiser, names and phone numbers taken, front "snug bars" closed, plastic screens between tables, staff wearing masks - all good stuff. Three meals and three pints for about £35. Excellent.
  6. Watford staircase on the Leicester section (and Foxton beyond it) can have waits of over an hour. But I think Watford is closed at present due to a gate failure. Braunston is worth stopping at. Whether you go up 6 locks and through the tunnel is up to you.
  7. I set it record using the "schedule" shown on my cable TV box-of-tricks. I'd better watch live to be sure it records correctly.
  8. The Chilterns & Grand Union. The trailer shows a breasted motor and butty. Anyone here ?
  9. Its a similar scheme on the Gleniffer. To get the correct big end clearance, the big-end-cap to con-rod joint is shimmed, though the exact measurement procedure escapes me.
  10. Thanks yes, thats an option too.
  11. Could someone remind me of the charges. For, say, a couple of hours.

  13. Both Puffers have faceache pages. https://www.facebook.com/VIC27puffer/ https://www.facebook.com/puffersteamboatholidays Auld Reekie / Vital Spark / VIC 27 has a group of old lags gradually doing a fine restoration job, but they've recently lost another key team member, I love the fact it takes 3 days to fire from cold to working pressure. Reminds me of a bigger "Little Pot Stove " by Nik Jones.
  14. Could you get yourself to Stoke Bruerne ? The blacksmith there might be able to help. Or Candlebridge Fabrications at Blisworth. Otherwise, I've seen a few mobile/floating welders around the cut.
  15. For the foreseeable future the Boat Inn will be open on Wednesday through to Saturday we will be open from 9:30am til 8:00pm. Sandwiches, burgers, cakes & ice cream will still be available until 5pm. From 5:00pm, it will be cold drinks (incl bottled beer) and snacks. For service visit the hatch on the canalside where our lovely staff will be happy to help! Julie not necessarily included...

  17. An excellent record, and it was great to hear Norman again. Did they really back the butty round the turn ? I love the bonneted butty steerer cutting the bushes !
  18. This fatboat in Peters link 2 posts ago looks like the one featured on last nights "George Clarks Amazing Spaces" on Channel 4.
  19. Not sure if this a permanent arrangement, but its a great idea. For being such a lovely village, SB is short of a shop. http://www.boatinn.co.uk/pdf/groceries_price_list.pdf To the north, Blisworth is the next shop close to the cut. I guess to the south its Tescos at Wolverton.
  20. I'm very impressed by the level of preparation that goes into this 'ere Historic Boat Rally. It certainly produces excellent results.
  21. Some excellent pictures of Braunston Historic Boat 2018 there Peter - even a few of me ! 2 years ago almost exactly.
  22. Thats crying out for a disc of rubber sheet over the top to keep the grease in and crud out.
  23. Previous thread from years ago. IIRC the Margaret Cornish story was that during the war, some IW lady crews were in the Boat Inn, Stoke Bruerne, having had a bad trip through the tunnel. They were complaining to each other about the bend and being balked by a slow, heavily laden boat with dim lights. After a minute or two they realised that the pub had fallen silent, everyone listening to their tale. It seems that long ago a boat had sunk in the tunnel with the loss of all hands, and of course there's no bend.............
