  12. Of course if you access the canalplan home page and allow it to access your location it will tell you the neatest canalplan place to your reported co-ordinates (which may or may NOT be where you are - for example if I use a wired connection to access canalplan from home it reports me as being in Bolton, but if I access it via wireless then it reports my nearest canalplan location as Coombe Hill basin)
  13. We have the full version running now, but please treat it gently for a while (I'd avoid adding data for a day or two myself) - there are still some bugs to be shaken out.
  14. We have the site up and running on the Beta site http://beta.canalplan.org.uk but there are still a few problems with it : PDF generation isn't working, you shouldn't upload photos etc....
  15. We had a serious error on the server and it decided that it wasn't going to boot up. New Server needs setting up (long job) Moving the 30+GB of files over to the new server has been done Webserver is configured (and some bits are working such as Bugtrack!) but Canalplan uses a LOT of aditional application which need installing before it can all work properly. Hopefully Nick can do an apt list from his server which should make things easier.
  16. The problem is that of course its not something that you'd do for fun (well Canalplan is/was done for fun - even the original version back in 1981) so its never going to be a rich "market" of websites, and interestingly Canalplan seems to have created some new locations on the canals which now seem to be semi-official such as Wood End Corner ( http://canalplan.org.uk/gazetteer/pi5d )
  17. We moored behind a boat once and at about 1am the engine started. It was lousy weather and frankly I couldn't be bothered doing anything about. Turned out my wife knew the owners of the boat and one of their kids had gone onto it and they have an autostart on the engine for the heating and so they turned the heating on and that fired the engine up, and they'd not realised we were moored behind them.
  18. The towpath in MD used to be quite well "patrolled" and all the time we've been moored there we've not heard of any problems. I assume that you did report it to CRT?
  19. According to RCR (on Facebook) it had sunk because it had been hit by another boat....
  20. I think you need some sort of rudder for that to work....
  21. Yes but given that a lot of boaters seem to be incapable of using any common sense at all a blanket "always close the gates" is a much easier message to drum into their heads.
  22. I thought it was 60/40 on the pump (and out of hours as its supposedly self service)
  23. Because Flash is a bug ridden pile of rubbish and is full of security holes. HTML 5 is replacing it in many places.
  24. I managed to make all the blue waterways vanish but it left the lock icons behind
