  1. To be fair, it would be a long subject for this forum also not wishing to be rude, it may be a bit of a steap learning curve. However if you are interested have a look at the following:- Linux router / firewall - PFSense www.pfsense.org Linux NAS (Network Attached Storage) - Freenas www.freenas.org Linux Set top box - OpenPli www.openpli.org Linux Media Server - Kodi www.kodi.tv Linux NVR - Zoneminder - www.zoneminder.com Thats just a few that i've used off the top of my head...
  2. To use as an every day laptop I would advise against it, I suppose you could do some upgrades but with the price of laptops these days not worth it, buy a new one... now if you're feeling particularly geeky you could wipe the os and install some linux flavour and use it for something else entirely, a NAS, a router, a media streamer, a settop box, an NVR.... the list is almost endless....
  3. Good point, well presented ? I was very careful with the chain and it looked in pretty good condition TBH i did wonder how critical the timing actually was on these engines... Interesting, you dont have any further info on this do you? Doing some googeling now....
  4. I've been poking through the manual again, huge shot in the dark here does anyone have "BMC Timing Gauge 18G 698" that i may be able to borrow? I'm guessing not but worth asking. Jumping back, page 103 of the (PDF) manual talks about a timing pin @ 28 Degrees BTDC What i'm thinking is if i can find 28 degrees BTDC, I can then mark the flywheel with a pointer & some white paint / tipex. Once i have these visual marks i can use my diesel pulse sensor and advance strobe timing light to set the pump timing. Seeing as the marks will be 28D BTDC the timing light will see this as TDC, so if i dial in +2D to the timing light it should allow me to set the exact moment of injection to 26 Degrees BTDC... This all relies on 1. I can actually find the pulse sensor, last time i used it was probably 15 years ago and 2. the pulse sensor actually still works... Does anyone see any flaws in my thinking. I do realise that i may be over thinking this a little but i'm really board and my mind keeps wandering back to it.
  5. Agreed it's a scary pic, but we don't know why he was moving, may need to refill water tanks...
  6. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  7. Why do you need to turn the wheels once a week? Why not just push the entire plane back 2 foot? Edit Now I think about it, would I be correct if I guess it's more to do with tyre loading?
  8. A few years back I worked at a data centre that compiled 'Big Data'. Basically they stored and organised anonymous general data. However when you run some clever algorithms the data would be pieced together. The results were truly terrifying! I dare say its improved somewhat, I got out of that as soon as I could. The uk already holds the highest percentage of cctv cameras per capita!!
  9. For hull to frame seal I've used both Butyl tape and closed cell foam tape, personally I found the closed cell foam tape to work better...
  10. Is the rear door the main entry / exit? I'm wondering if you can secure it from the inside at all? Padlocks aren't particularly secure, most can be opened quietly with 2 spanners in a few seconds.
  11. You've hit the nail on the head there! I read a white paper last week that said the same thing.
  12. Talking about minimising risk, I popped into the local mini supermarket yesterday. There was a guy in the wearing gloves and mask. The bit that made me smirk was as soon as he left, without removing gloves or antibacterial, he pulled his mask down lit a cigarette and had a chat on his mobile phone...
  13. Dpc engineering, does some amazing stainless work... 01442 871871
  14. Agreed. We will all (or at least the vast majority) catch it at some point, just like we all get colds from time to time...
  15. I've used the Balmar SG200 Battery Monitor a few times with good results...
  16. Had an email from the marina last week saying recreational moorers were banned from the site and if there was anything we needed the marina staff to do then call them. Had a high bilge water SMS today, not overly worried as the system is experimental and the sensor is a little temperamental but called the office today... no answer... sent an email... no answer...
  17. Ah, a picture speaks a thousand words! But now i'm not very hopeful for mine...
  18. Perfect thanks. I havent got a photo of that area of the engine, when i'm allowed there again i'll get one. Yes, i did a couple of vehicle race engines a few years ago where, amongst other things, lightened the flywheels. This had the oposite effect, it imporoved acceleration but made the idle lumpy, saying that they were designed to live between 6000 & 8000 rpm so we didnt care about idle ?
  19. Thank you. I didn't realise there was a heavier marine flywheel ? makes sence tho, hopefully I have them... When you say 'on top of the flywheel housing' do you remember if it was directly on top by the cylinder head or off center to one side or the other?
  20. Evening all, Reading the manual on page 'General data 5' it says the injection timing for the DPA pump should be 26 degrees Before TDC. Problem is I can't find any reference to the timing marks, I would assume they're on the back of the flywheel. Going through the manual and photos I have of the engine (cos we can't go out at the mo) I can't seem to find a likely window for the timing marks. Does anyone know where I should be looking? Thanks Dave.
