The content of the notification references some previous comments on here about reduced reservoir capacity, because of concerns about the reservoir structure, but the wording is quite opaque " We're also part-way through a programme of major reservoir improvements, as required by legislation, so we were not able to start this season with complete holdings for several reservoirs." I remember my boating history getting off to a stuttering non-start on the Leeds Liverpool, though it's hard to remember the exact timeline. I did an engine maintenance course first week of Feb 2020. Completed the engine maintenance on my boat just before Covid hit. Where I live most or all of 2020 was in complete lockdown. After that 2021 and 2022 were (I think) either partly in lockdown (2021) or navigation on L&L was closed due to water shortages. I can see Arthur has a good point. One hire company has already closed because their hire business is not tenable if their hirers can't go anywhere. Other canal businesses are at risk if their customers can't get to them. We had to put back scheduled blacking a couple of years ago because the locks between us and the boatyard were closed for months on end because of water shortages.

I received a notification today from CRT about water shortages on the Leeds Liverpool and the likely need to close navigation between Wigan and Leeds from the end of May or earlier. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/0196ab11-3e87-7063-8add-2861b63f6abc

It's hard to tell from the picture perspective how close to the bridge that's moored, but it definitely looks closer than it needs to be. What's the problem mooring slightly further away. Also, you seem to get more than your fair share of really ugly looking boats down your way.

Suggested: Subforum for boaters on benefits
Ianws replied to Arthur Marshall's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Is this a back of a fag packet calculation, based on what you believe to be true or was true in the distant past. or is it based on some recent accredited national statistics. I do think a space to ask for, or give, advice around claiming benefits, without it becoming political or judgemental, would probably help a fair few people. Especially with it being a bit of a unique situation, with general benefits advice not being easily applies to people lining aboard. A problem would be keeping the judgemental or political comments out of the conversation. I'm sure we have all seen how such posts in a thread can overwhelm any useful advice or drive new, or less resilient members away. I know Facebook groups covering this issue have also been mentioned but not everyone can access them or wants to engage with Facebook.. -
Suggested: Subforum for boaters on benefits
Ianws replied to Arthur Marshall's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
It's hard to separate benefits and politics, for a whole host of reasons. A subforum would probably be useful for people seeking advice and those with useful experience or knowledge to share. Given the subject, its probably inevitable it would become political or judgemental at some point. Hopefully, that wouldn't completely derail it if enough contributors posted with the right intentions. -
Surely, that should give you an insurance discount. Even if it's just a couple of quid.

Black pudding occasionally. Not the dried fried discs you get in hotel breakfasts. A good boiled whole pudding, served with cooked tomatoes, mustard and a nice crusty bap, barm, cob, teacake, whatever your preference.

I know that once someone is inside my boat a standard lucas ignition key will get you on your way. Is this common?

Meanwhile https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/can-trafford-city-the-best-31402308 Some serious Peel investment planned. Thre are also plans for some major housing developments by Peel near Bolton. Providing the golf course built from scratch as part of the plans is selected for the Ryder Cup in a few years time. Meanwhile there's criticism of Peel's investment in Scottish ports they operate. It's a tangled web and money for the breach, although minimal in comparison, is still a tidy sum they would need to want to find.

You talk about playing the game and being better at if than other people. In a later post you talk about playing the man not the ball. Why all the talk about playing games and having to be better than other people, it all sounds very sad and juvenile. What's wrong with contributing an answer, asking an additional question or debating a point sensibly. It's a discussion forum not a infants playground.

You are just being ridiculous now.

The tea cake/ fruit teacake insanity is also a thing around some areas in East Lancashire, such as Blackburn.

I like abit of onion but those chunks are for serious enthusiasts.

The beer looks sound. The barm looks okay but a little more filling maybe. But it beats what I had today.

I don't think it's bumping the topic to raise the profile of the thread to get the question answered that's happening.
-
Can I suggest, if any posters want to play games rather than try and answer a question that's been asked, they set up a separate topic and ask people to join it, rather than hijack a topic. It's the hijacking and consequent nonsense that puts the original posters off, more than the comments from people actually trying to help.

Suspending a weight from the ceiling
Ianws replied to Ewan123's topic in Boat Building & Maintenance
If you can locate steel, there are some magnets with hooks or eyes attached that could probably easily handle 15kg. I'm not an expert, so perhaps others could comment. -

Have you seen this which refers to the Primo 11
-
The page does say morco is offering to arrange a refund for affected people, or owners can register for a free replacement product when one becomes available. There's also a cost to removal and reinstalling the replacement, which wouldn't be required if the original wasn't faulty. Is Morco likely to cover that cost, I'm guessing probably not.

The latest CRT boaters update has a link to a BSS safety update regarding specific lpg water heaters. It says the appliances should not be used and inspectors should terminate an inspection straight away if the appliances are connected. The appliances referenced are Primo 6 (MP6), Primo 11 (MP11), EUP6 and EUP11 LPG open-flued water heaters. The affected appliances were sold between 2018 and 2023. It is estimated that there could be several hundred affected appliances on boats subject to BSS Examinations. Note that Primo models are also marked with the name Innovita Link to the page https://www.boatsafetyscheme.org/stay-safe-advice/known-recalls-safety-alerts/

"Kill For Knob" in the item title doesn't sound promising.

Also, apologies, this thread is growing and I missed some of the relevant bits. "The law gives a minimum of 14 days (not subject to signage restrictions)" Note to me . Minimum not maximum.

Sorry. Just posted simultaneously.
