  1. BSS wasn't designed for live aboard boats. The regs for these should be the same as for Hire Boats.
  2. As far as I Know ,because I have never seen it, it is supposed to be a build up of unburnt oil products on the cylinder walls which causes a less than optimum piston to cylinder fit and all the ills that that results in. (Now prepared to be shot down by more learned opinion.)
  3. It is the perception among some boaters that this will cause bore glaze. I have read papers by qualified mechanical engineers that indicate thet the load of the Alternator is sufficient to prevent it if it really exists. I have just had my BMC 2200cc engine refurbished and although it needed a rebore there was no evidence of bore glaze and I have alwas run the engine out of gear when charging the batteries when moored up.
  4. Is there any evidence of that?. I was under the impression that all the moorings up for tender were empty at the time the tendreing process started.
  5. One on the Upper Peak Forest "Fairy Turn".
  6. If you'r in an AWCC afilliated Club there are lots of Places.
  7. You havn't had to deal with the Wales and Border Counties Management.
  8. Also dont forget that you only qualify for Winter Fuel allowance from a permenant address and if you "borrow" a friends or relatives address then you will share their entitlement rather than qualify for your own.
  9. - and there are lots of members boat pics in the Gallery
  10. I am quite supprised at the negative reaction that is coming out when a company says that it is taking steps to reduce existing carbon emmissions. Its like saying no thank you we don't like what you represent so we do not want your contribution.
  11. Ask around the other moorers . there was someone called Jason Afloat in the area in 2001. It will probably be the same boat that delivers diesel and Coal.
  12. A long Cruise from NM/FV to HL Maybe?.
  13. Is there any recent Info regarding the ODPM consultation which was done in 2006 when 2 Jags was DPM.
  14. These are Great. Really got me into looking around and in some cases stopping where I had never though of stopping before. They cover all the popular cruising rings and canals. Could even cover the whole system by now. Feedback is always requested if you spot something that is different.
  15. The vendor should be keen to show you the results of the recent survey if he sniffs the possibility of a sale . If he is reluctant then there may be something in it he does not wish a potential buyer to see.
  16. Try putting via March and Peterborough in the canalplan route. It may take a little longer but will avoid the Wash. Canal plan also will not take into account Tide Times which could extend the 6 days that it gave you.
  17. Yes. Seen them in the High Lane Arm and Around Bridge 11.
  18. Could you give us some examples please. I had always assumed that the original Acts of Parliament that set up the canals were in effect a compulsary purchase plan to allow the canal companies to build the canal. Please exclude River Navigations where Riperian land ownership applies and the non towpath side of canals.
  19. I support the Narrowboat world stance too.
  20. Marinas are not designed to live in. they are like Car parks.
  21. I seem to recall that the length of cable to the battery is an influence on how well the bank charges. The length should be the same even if it means an intermediate connecting point. This is difficult to describe in print but if your battery bank is parallell connected by all the +ve terminals and all the -ve terminals connected with one battery at the end of the line then that battery will not receive a full charge untill all the others have been charged and so on up the line. Using the same length of cable to all +ve terminals and -ve terminals connected to a single cable coming from the alternator charging +ve and -ve scource will ensure that all batteries in the bank are charged to the same level.
  22. Close enough for them to hear the drop in the engine revs.
  23. [ question is - is there a less sensitive type of alarm that will serve the purpose? The one we got free has a 7 minuit override button so it gives time to make Toast or Bacon Butties without going off. That is if you remenber to set it before you start cooking. Not had any problems with the solid fuel stove though.
