  1. You may have problems in the deeper locks below Oxford. You are required to have Ropes fore and aft up to bollards on the lock side. Your 10 mtr (about 32 Ft) will only allow a 16 ft drop this may be just enough but you wont have much slack to play with once you are at the bottom. I think the deep ones are Sandford 8ft 10 ins and Culham 7Ft 11 ins. regards G
  2. Thanks we will do out best. The actual route is to go to LLangollen first then back via Middlewich to Liverpool where we are booked to do the "Link" then back to Middlewich to complete an anitclockwise trip of the Four Counties Ring.
  3. We have finally set of on our summer cruise. Follow our progress on the Macclesfield Canal, The Trent and Mersey Canal, The Shropshire Union Canal, The Llangollen Canal, The Bridgewater Canal and The Leeds and Liverpool canal. Not necessarily in that order on gralynslog.blogspot.com and feel free to comment.
  4. Merry Christmas Forum. Hope you enjoy it as much as We will. Boxing day Cruise tomorrow.[/b]
  5. Thanks for all the advice. I will try the ordinary silicon first. Will report back if I have any problems.
  6. I have an 80 watt domestic fridge on board which is powered by a 660 watt modified sine wave inverter. The inverter is connected to the battery via the cables supplied with it which means that the inverter has to be close to the batteries. The cable run from the inverter to the fridge uses normal " mains lead" one size larger then that on the fridge. So far after 4 seasons of use (we cruise for about 8 weeks continuous in the summer) we have been happy with the installation.
  7. I am keen to change the wall mounted lights from bulbs to LEDs and have bought some LEDs to replace the bulbs. In other posts where this process has been described the use of "High Temperature" silicon sealant has been used as a "Glue". I have looked at lots of silicon sealants on sale but have yet to find the High Temperature versions. Question: Where do you get this magic gunge from?.
  8. I think the aerial matches the sign nicely. or British Rail pointed theirs that way.
  9. Can be contacted via postmaster@nccc.uk.net
  10. Thanks for all the inputs I will keep my eye out for the mobile services and we may just last till Brentford for the pump-out. Graham.
  11. We will be starting the third leg of our summer cruise travelling from Gayton Junction to Brentford tomorrow. After enjoying the free pump-outs on the EA system for the last few weeks I looked up in my Nicholsons for the BW facilities. Alas it is too old to show the places where BW pump-outs are - can anyone list them for me?. The second unknown is where are the best places to top up with Diesel?. I would hate to top up at the most expensive place on the cut because I was running low only to find out the the cheapest is just a fw miles away. Thanks in advance. To see where we have been check out the blog gralyns log (second link below)
  12. I thought that there were already two or three boats with moorings in the lower basin. One at least was reported to be living aboard his boat and IWPS were happy with the situation as it appeared in their eyes to increase the suecrity on the sight and got them one more member. I may be wrong but............
  13. Looks like Marple Yard all over again. I am now becoming convinced that BW are trying to cut cost by removing water and elsan/pumpout facilities. Now to my knowledge we have :- Water at the top of Tyrley Locks (been closed for ? about 2 Years (awaiting a solution to supply Issues) BW Yard Marple site to become housing. Sewage and water facilities on R Severn ( tanks not double skinned on floating Facilities) I was told that existing facilities were double skinned but may need repair so removed before problem occoured. Now Marsworth site to become housing. The common thread when concerned groups ask BW about the facilities being replaced is " Go to the local boatyard and Pay". Do Members of this forum know of any other water /elsan disposal points under threat?. It may be worth getting a list up and asking BW to go public on what they seem to be doing in the background. Further Should I expect a reduction in my license fee or at least a freeze in increases due to these savings or are BW once again squeezing boaters to solve their deficit problems. If this is the case we should start a campaign to get some Creative Management in BW rather than the NO BRAINERS they have at the moment. Rant Over.
  14. Found It!. No need to bother now thanks.
  15. I am looking for a contact number for the boat cover maker that runs his business from his boat moored at the eastern end of the linea moorings at Milford on the Staffs and Worcs canal, near Great Heywood. He made my existing covers and I want a new one that will match those I already have. Regards Graham.
  16. The Marple Civic Society are attempting to persuade British Waterways to abandon or reconsider their plans for Marple Wharf (the current plan is to create a number of Dwellings and get rid of the water and elsan disposal point). I am trying to find published references to the No Mooring notices that were installed at Ansty on the Northern Oxford canal when some new houses were built at the end of the row near to the Ansty Social club. Also there were some references to a similar situation at Nantwich. All inputs welcome. Regards Graham S
  17. I'll try and update this thread occasionally as we go (and I know a few other forum members will help with that too) so if we're likely to be passing, get in touch and we'll stop for a chat and hopefully some beer. Or if you should happen to see us just shout and wave and we'll stop then too; any excuse for a beer! Watch out for NB Gralyn. Hoping to be in Gloucester by mid June Too. Coming down the Severn from Stourport after T+M Shroppie and S+W. Details of our trip will be on the blog shown below, will be using a system 3 dongle to update.
  18. Sounds a useful bit of kit. Are they for sale?. Where From?.
  19. Interesting way of tying up the boat in the Lock. Why did you do it ??.
  20. Now have the Checkerplate. The supplier has now moved to Denton On Parkway off Oldham Rd Near the Sainsburys at the junction of the M60 and M67. Contcat details remain as given. Thanks again all who helped.
  21. What A Quick response, this forum should get an Award for the services it provides . Thanks for the suggestions The Bredbury site is just round the corner. Thanks Kev for the reminder, I think that I will be fitting a rubber/plastic channel in the U section of the hole to cut down on vibration noise. This should prevent the dissimilar metal effect.
  22. Has anyone any ideas on where I can get a sheet of aluminium checkerplate 5mm thick 1225 mm long and 710mm wide. I am getting fed up of lifting the steel plate of the same size to my engine space and weed hatch. I have tried the sheet metal suppliers in Goyte Mill Marple and there my choice seems to dry up. Trying to Google Sheet metal suppliers give me a headache so I thought that I would try the forum. Greater Manchester area preferred but I am willing to travel to a definite supplier. Edited to correct spelling
