  1. I have just received my new licence that will run until the end of Jan 2010. The turn round time was fine (only took about two weeks). The only problem is, that after I had fitted it to the boat, somone noticed that it was headed British Waterways Scotland!. Has this happened to anyone else? and what did BW do about it?.
  2. Nic and Anna Welcome to the Forum. It will be presumed by most that you are looking to live on a narrowboat. Barges are usually much wider and there is a limit to the waterways you will be able to cruise on. Just look through the topics in the forum and most of your questions will already have an answer. If not it would be best to ask specific questions. Once again Welcome and I hope you find what you want in this forum.
  3. Try AMC Diesel in Preston tele 01772613003 last address I had is Beverley House Hall Lane Longton Preston Lancs PR4 5DZ http://www.kellysearch.co.uk/gb-company-80188382.html

  5. When might we expect to see theory put into practice
  6. Looks like they have created somewhere to get on and off for working the lock. I don't think that they intended it to be a mooring.
  7. Thanks Keith. Knew that there mus be one somewhere. And its nearly me birthday too! :-)
  8. I Noticed that my dongle has an aerial socket but I have not been able to find where to buy an aerial. Where did you get yours from?. Is there a Part Number I can search on. Apart from poor reception in areas that ai expexted I have been happy with PAYG using it all summer from Stockport to the Thames and back.
  9. Had one fitted last winter to a BMC 2.2 ltr engine that purred like a kitten on tickover but barked like a pack of dogs when underway. Now you can only hear the engine noise through the decking, no exhaust noise at all. You will need plenty of room to fit one though. Mine came from TT Marine at New Mills. There are differing opinions among BS examiners as to whether they need any heat insulation cause they are already insulated to some extent inside. Mine is insulated by some type of reflective thermal blanket as it s size would make wraping it with the normal thermal bandage quite expensive. As far as exahust noise is concerned it is the best thing we have had done. Hope this helps
  10. Welcome Aboard. Enjoy your boating
  11. We lit our fire last night. We were at Staines on the Thames and had just come up river from Hampton Court. We were soaked and the fire was lit to dry everythig off. Nice day though today stopped at Datchet in the sun.
  12. What length is the boat?. I dont think a 70 footer will get through the lock at Thorne.
  13. How about a " Billy Can " they were good for making T
  14. Welcome to Blighty. I will arrange for all the pubs on your route to serve their beer through coolers! You will be quite Welcome to check. Don't know about the Larger though Have a good trip.
  15. Not with a Dry Powder Fire extinguisher!. The accepted method is to smother the flames either in a blanket or role the victim on the ground.
  16. Thanks T+S and Baldock for a swift reply
  17. Coca Cola or Cilit Bang ????????
  18. Has anyone tried the T-Mobile USB Modem on a desktop computer rather than a laptop?. I can't see why it should not work but..............
  19. If time is of the essence so to speak. The last on has its merits. One day longer in miles @3mph but 2days shorter in locks @15 mins per lock. Saving one day! QED
  20. Weak sunshine in Oldham.
  21. Unless they actually take the boat away from you , you are not being made homeless!. You are being asked to move your home to another place (and I dont mean the House of Lords)
  22. And why are they trying to do that?. Evict is a very emotive word. Do you mean they are going to turn you out of your boat (IE make you homeless) or tell you to "Move On"
  23. Where can you get it from?.
  24. The erswhile Deputy Prime Minister "Prescot the Jag" has already looked into this with the aim of bringing live-aboard boater in line with land based Travellers. You can find the results of the consultation on the DPM Web Site. The conclusion was then Do Nothing.
