  1. Joking aside. I can see what you are trying to do. But the advantage of true electric boating is NOT having to run a diesel engine all day. You use an engine to charge the battery and then run on electric, but that means charging the battery on a running genny or boat engine all night, not allowed, its 8am till 8pm, just when you are wanting to boat. Solar and wind power is just not normally sufficient in the UK, the sun don't shine enough, wind don't blow long enough. You need acres of PV panels and have you ever slept or tried to sleep on a boat with a wind turbine on it? Using a genny to just charge batteries is not simple, you have to power a big sophisticated battery charger and electronics don't take kindly to running off a lot of generators. So you propose running a genny all day whilst you use the electric for propulsion? A diesel electric boat. You may as well run a conventional engine & gearbox driving a prop. More efficient, it will heat water and charge your leisure batteries at the same time. Unless you can come up with a silent way of charging your batteries at night its a crazy idea. But if you do you will be a multi billionaire overnight, let me know, we'll split it.
  2. Under the cabin floor is the wine cellar space currently.
  3. Splutter!!!!! Cheshire aint southern jessie territory cock! Careful, I'm renown for being curmudgeonly!
  4. Durite one is normally durable, I would remove it, strip it and vaseline it inside. I think they do come apart easily. If its cheapy, fit a new Durite one, grease it up first and make sure that water cannot get down the spindle hole. Plastic bag over it? Just heating the locker won't stop the condensation dripping on to it and may make it worse.
  5. Is tha' a Northern Lad too, tha Kno's? Fooling around, sorry we are Cheshire set of course.
  6. 2.5mm ring main cable sounds like domestic non stranded stuff, not allowed on boats, must be multi strand flex. 12V fridge, use nothing less than 10mm for a 6 to 8 m run else you will have volt drop problems Thicker is better. Same with the toilet 6mm is too thin for 20m run @ 25A 12v. I would do both in 16mm, then you know it will be right for ever. And we are talking copper cross sectional area here not outside insulation diameter. As for 240v mains power, as its only a 16A land line maximum, 2.5mm Arctic blue cable is the stuff to use. From Screwfix etc.
  7. A bit of oil in the coolant does aid the water seal on the pump but a lot is a problem. If you have antifreeze in the coolant it will breakdown the oil but not emulsify it to any great extent so I would guess heat exchanger too. To make sure, are there any gas bubbles showing up in the header tank? Be sure it is not pressurising with exhaust gasses when cold. You say head gasket 800 hours ago, has the head been retorqued as recommended? If its a BMC it should be retorqued every 400 hours or so. There is an oil feed through the head for the rocker shaft but its unusual for this to leak across to a waterway but possible. I don't know how you would establish that this is OK without lifting the head but it may be worth torquing it now. For peace of mind, check the gearbox oil level too..............................Just in case! As you were missed that you had already, sorry.
  8. How can you tell? After 50 years of working hard, I reckon I'm entitled. I'll help anyone but sometimes it all gets too much and the sand and sea beckon so its down to the beach today. I can even get wifi there too!
  9. No, I was trying to be helpful but the OP will not do anything that is suggested. We have gone from a previously OK engine that won't start to head gaskets that blow themselves, cracked blocks, sumps full of water, disappearing oil, ether that won't burn, and still he will not check that fuel is being injected. Patience exhausted, I have better things to do, like lie on a beach.
  10. Get an address, send lots and lots of tissues because this is going to end in tears. You do not know what you are doing, or what you are working with or even why you are doing it. Best of luck, if you don't want to listen to good advice, you are on your own pal.
  11. This engine is a black hole, no matter what we suggest, it all falls flat. Let him tear it down and find nothing, he will then have to buy a new engine and that will be someone else's problem.
  12. I think that perhaps he just wants to pull it apart to see what is inside.
  13. He is getting suck and blow inlet and exhaust so cam must be turning.
  14. Notice from C&RT, incident requiring emergency services near bridge 78 Oxford canal, Barby Wood Bridge. Nosey, what's going down?
  15. Pardon? Its the same! What goes in comes out. In fact considering the break off pressure of the injector, its greater in the pipe. Please don't mention fingers over the ends of injection pipes, the OP could lose his finger or even hand. This thread has not made sense from page one.
  16. It makes no difference! The injection pressure is exactly the same as a big engine. With all the pipes on, crack the injector union by just 1 flat, barely anything at all. Crank it, you should get a sharp hiss and spurt of fuel from around the nut, you will hear it and see it as a mist there is that much pressure.
  17. Injection pump pressures can be around 15000psi ! That is why I keep asking if fuel is dripping out or spitting forcefully.
  18. Yep. In which case I doubt it is fuel. A diesel engine with compression and fuel will fire up or smoke. You have the only one in the world that won't, must be worth a fortune.
  19. OK, so try with the pipes off as I suggested, what do you get?
  20. Before you do that, take off all 4 injector pipes from the injectors, put the stop lever to "stop", and crank the engine a little. You should get no diesel from any pipe. Then put the stop lever all the way over to "run"and crank for 10 seconds. Do you get fuel running out? If not I would suspect that the lift pump has ruptured its diaphragm. That could be why you had an over full sump , its been dumping fuel into it.
  21. You will have to do the Bridgewater canal completely inside a week unless you buy their license. Loads of marinas on the way. Take oars, you will need them after you run out of batteries. Generator can only be run 8am till 8pm, not on the boat, unless its a diesel genny, so are you going to cruise in the dark and charge all day moored up? Charging with a generator is not straightforward, you will get lots of "advice" soon on here, some good, some..................
  22. I would not expect a router that was only 12V and 1A to do much work, they need to spin at high speed to cut through even thin ply. What did you buy it for?
  23. Sorry, can't help, it looks nothing like the engine in my McClaran, no spark plugs.
