  1. It's a Flojet, but i imagine they are all much the same, what would be a more reliable brand to go for?
  2. About a year ago i replaced my domestic water pump due to a couple of issues - it was leaking, plus the pressure sensor was playing games, either not running much leading to a pulsing water flow, or constantly on for hours if i left it alone. I replaced with the same model, and was fine until yesterday. I went to run a tap and nothing happened, the pump had tripped the breaker. Hmm, odd i thinks. Reset and carry on. Multiple times today it had tripped out, and now appears to be mostly seized up. Swapped pumps back over (old one was kept as a temporary spare) and all is ok so far ( pump is off when not in use). Do they really only last a year or so before failing in various manners, or have i just been unlucky? Suppose i better shell out another £150 for a replacement once again?
  3. Where i used to work, we occasionally had a film unit in - last big one was for around 3 months for 5 minutes of screen time. a costly business.
  4. Turns out the wire on the sender was loose, which is why at idle when the engine vibrates more the connection was dodgy, nipped it up again and all is good thankfully! Why it only did it when hot i don't know, it only happened after 30 mins of running. Thanks all.
  5. A new issue appeared with the oil pressure on my beta 43 with a shade under 5000 hours. When cold, i have good oil pressure at idle and cruising rpms, circa 50psi, however, when warm at below about 1200rpm, down to idle i have (apparently) zero oil pressure. I have changed the oil and filter about 50 hours early, with 15/40 mineral, and a beta filter incase the old filter was blocked, or the oil had thinned out due to diesel in the oil or something, but it made no difference, as soon as the new oil had warmed up, pressure vanished at low rpm. I assume the pump is ok, as i would expect it to worse with cold thick oil, engine temp is normal, oil level was normal before i changed the oil, and is still normal, could the gauge be lying to me? has anyone had this issue?
  6. As it says, if you were the new CEO of CRT, what changes would you make to make CRT a viable operation? As all we ever seem to read is CRT is doing things wrong, i was curious as to what you would do better?
  7. I was told once by a vlockie that CRTs policy is don't help single handers as they know what they are doing, all help goes to hireboats.
  8. If you dont want a gas oven/hob, consider a diesel fired one, pricey, but the only other viable option to gas. I've no experience of diesel ovens but electric will not work without a generator of at least 3kw i would say.
  9. Planning a trip to Kingston on Thames to see some family in mid July, and just wondering what mooring is like there? Is it plentiful or busy? Suggestions welcome!
  10. I was told once that 'we don't help single handers as they know what they are doing, we only help hire boaters as they are clueless' or words along those lines. Best vlovkie i've had was coming out of Birmingham where he went ahead and set the locks for me, most helpful, last time on the Hatton flight the official vlockies ignored me, and just shut the gate behind me by their hut and went back to their cup of tea, a couple of locks later, an autistic lad who helps out once a week asked if he could asist, and set each of the following locks for me, in the pouring rain, again most helpful! At the Knowle flight i had a vlockie complain she cant get any painting done with the constant boats!
  11. it's an iskra, but no part number visible on unit - i can get a mahle equivalent for £160, but i'll ring round some local places first
  12. no charge coming out of it, plus that burnt electric smell, using starter alternator for temporary domestic charging using a jump lead at the moment. I'll look for a part number tomorrow, looking into nearby alternator repairs currently.
  13. I've no idea what make it is, just that its the original green one. I'm Marsworth Way at the moment
  14. My domestic alternator, 100amp, had died on me. Whats the correct replacement please? thanks
  15. I had my first windlass injury today. I was winding an especially stiff paddle, putting lots of force into winding it, and as i was doing this, it got to a freely moving section, and with all the force i could muster, i whacked the end of the handle into my kneecap. oo ya bugger. It was agony, and i felt like i was going to faint, so moved away from the edge and sat down for 10 mins just groaning, and rubbing my knee. I was limping for the rest of the day,and have a nice bruise now, Not the normal injury, but by golly, never again!
  16. I got shouted at for going too slowly past a moored boat today ? I think some people just like to moan and shout no matter what
  17. The water is about 6 inches down from the top of the concrete currently - i'll be here for as long as i deem necessary - no sign of numpty yet
  18. Oh no he's not yes he is ?
  19. on the visitor moorings between the weir and marina
  20. still moored up in barrow upon soar, and probably will be for a few days yet! It's a gusty one today
  21. I had an interesting experience with side winds yesterday - not only did it suddenly blow me sideways about six to ten feet, but it also tipped me over by about 20/25 degrees, so much so my side hatches opened!
  22. I'm currently on the Soar, which is in flood according to the coloured boards - Travelled about 12 miles yesterday on it, with no issues, but what will the trent be like? (i'll be heading west, which is upstream?) is it best to wait it out, and if so, how long do we reckon that will take for levels to drop?
  23. When i say 'one' i mean a couple, one for me, one for a guest if i have one. Yes, single handed. I don't plan on the Tidal Trent just yet, Just the Non tidal section, I want more experience before tidal work, only being on board for 9 months. Mooring on the Soar and Trent - i guess its pretty much only designated mooring spots that i can use?
  24. No, Yes, No, but going to get one. How necessary is a VHF? That's just the start - i'll continue on through Harecastle Tunnel and beyond, but that is likely a month at least away - i'll decide where i'm going nearer the time.
