  5. my understanding is that unless she owned the mooring she was on, or was guanteed to be allowed to moor on the same spot for the period of time she was there she shouldn't have been paying council tax anyway. The council are wrong. Paging Smelly, he's the expert.
  6. Ask Clive Henderson to bring up your concerns to council.... Oh wait...

  9. Peter An interesting document, I will read it with an open mind. Just one question, to what "Racism issue" is Caroline Killeavy refering to on page 77?
  10. A very important role. FuzzyDuck Keeper of Dawncraft Owners copy of Razzle
  11. A spirited but dignified campaign, that impressed me no end. You should be very proud of yourself. A virtual pint for you sir!
  12. Its interesting to note tho, that out of the 100 s of millions of members, all of whom are boating fanatics, the chairman of the IWA only got 768 votes. Theres a message about apathy there somewhere. Well done to all the independants. Now onwards and upwards, someone needs to hold our elected representatives to account, I suspect the IWA wont be in a hurry to do so.
  13. Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, and fictional people. November the 6th this year sees me reach a significant milestone on my one way trip. I would be honoured if you would come and share the occasion with me. At the moment the location is not fixed, but it will be within a short days cruise from Leicester. Possibly Loughborough, or maybe at Beeston. Book the date in your diaries.
  14. having had a raw water pump go a bit tits up an hour after after leaving Torksey. No No No No No!!!!!!
  15. I started off with good intentions, Put AF, and DM at the top spot (Not sayin which was no 1.), the IWA candidtes at the bottom, then bored to absolute tears, ranked candidates by the size of their noses.
  16. Hmmmmm I might come along if SWMBO hasnt got anything planned for me. I shall provide my own boat however, those pictured look a bit tame.

  21. I will consider switching to Saga when my boat reaches the requisite 50 years old
  22. Plenty of modern mobile handsets will act as a WIFI/3G gateway. your iPad should work with any one of those.
  23. It might be outdated in that it won't download at 1Gb/s, but i'll still function. 2G phones haven't stopped working, and Nokia's first 3G phone was released in 2004. if it works now, and provides the connectivity you need, it'll still work in another 8 years. all of the stuff I've specced would be replacable anyway, it's just hidden out of the way. LTE is an evolution of 3G, it's not going to spell the end of 3G devices.
  24. With modern products like the TracPhone getting and keeping a signal shouldn't be too difficult on a narrowboat. But it's a pretty bulky object to mount on a cabin roof.. It sounds like an interesting project mind. And if you do decide to go this route I personally would be really keen on reading a blow by blow account. So stay in touch. I'm assuming you'll be connecting into work via a VPN and then a remote desktop session of some kind. I'd be kind of tempted to try a 3G connection using quality components designed for vehicle networking (not a dongle. A good M2M 3G router built into the boat during construction / fitout with an external antenna, and a wifi LAN inside.) I was looking at offering this as a commercial install, and the equipment should set you back about £500 at retail. It all runs directly from 12V and can be hidden away, with just a single small external antenna.
