  1. That would be while it manoeuvred around as it prepared to anchor while is waited for passage or for the pilot cutter to catch up wth it. N
  2. If you have a longish boat the water point is not easy to get to!
  3. I would agree but it seems to have made some progress in moving the sand from one place to another.
  4. Good overnight moorings just below Sileby lock opposite the boatyard. BTW is Alex still at the boatyard? And above Kegworth Deep lock and MountSorrel lock IIRC Elsan and diesel at Leicester Marina (Used to be called Raynsway). You have to turn off the river ( quite tight if you are going downstream) and motor on through a biggish pond to the acksheral basin. N
  5. And look at the area of those containers. A gentle breeze would exert a huge force. N
  6. Been there in Theodora, Not very exciting but if no one uses it then it will never improve.
  7. That bow looks as if its been caught between a lare pair of mitre gates. N
  8. If anthracite is nearly pure carbon then it will be nearly ash free as all the carbon will have been converted to carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. And I remember as a kid picking the bits of cinders out of my bloody knees when I had fallen over. N
  9. Why can't I see these images? Edited to add: Yes I can. Right click then "View image". N
  10. CRT aren't known for their skill in tying up boats. N

  13. We have a Kipor 1000 and have been happy with its performance. I soon found that the expense of petrol and the difficulty of getting it on the cut was worth the effort of converting it to gas. I have just enough room in the gas locker for a third bottle. It's much cheaper to run on gas and not inconvenient. I run the generator on the bank with a long flexible gas hose from the bottle. N
  14. We had a lovely time on the Basingstoke in 2016. It's by no means derelict but the locks leak like crazy so you need to be accompanied by and lock keeper/lengthsman who seals up the gates when you have worked through a lock. He drags leafy silt agains the sills and that reduces the leak from a torrent to a trickle. N
  15. Amps per hour is the same as "Coulombs/s/hour" otherwise known as the acceleration of charge? We could always use "Not a useful Unit" Nick
  16. A stable ship will stay upright because static CoG is below static CoB This is NOT the case. You would think that if the CoG were above the CoB the boat would capsize. The reason that it doesn't is that the centre of bouyancy moves as the boat heels. It shifts in the direction of the heel so providing an righting moment. I forgot to add a reply to Athy. A 26ft narrowboat is going to be more tender that a loger boat because the water plane area is so much less. N
  17. The V hull makes no difference to stability until the boat is heeled so far the the bilge is above the water ?. Nick
