  1. I can't see that as they are completely separate with two of everything including feeds from the main tank - but we can always hope! I will keep this topic updated/advised as it progresses. Thanks........................
  2. Thanks Tony/Mike/Biscuits/Bizzard I think the hot water is working as it should (tested hot) albeit that it is pulsing before settling after water take off - probably pump settings, not touched as yet. Cold isn't right so I will order one and replace the cold and see. I tried to re-pressure cold with car type pump which wouldn't work due to lack of clearance to lock it in place - will try Saturday with a borrowed bike pump and see what happens. Ordering a "spare" regardless. Thanks
  3. I have investigated further to day and on one system the accumulator works and there is a delay before the pump kicks in and on the other the pump responds immediately I cant get at either to check the pressures in situ so what I'm going to do is replace one and investigate the other on the workbench. It will take a while but I'll report back
  4. I guess this will keep most people happy and also cover the likely period until the EA merger when it will all change again when whatever charging cost base is used will be based on square footage which IMHO has always felt like the right way to do it.
  5. Cheers Brian that's where my thoughts were headed - I will go back tomorrow with a car pump and gauge and if removable I might see if the valve rubbers are perished are they like a push bike valve in that respect??
  6. We had a 24 centre cockpit with a wooden hull later ones were fibreglass - we do still see some of those about but probably only one a year
  7. relatively easy to get the real stuff on the net just bought some £40 for 20 litres delivered - Creosote Sales Ltd Loughborough - only problem is you can't buy less than 20l but a fender will take app 2l each
  8. Hi, I have just refilled the water system on our boat after it has been laid up/winterised for app 3 years and all is/was well with no leaks, I left it alone for 2 hours at least and the pump didn't re-pressurise but when I closed the doors to the cup'd where the pumps are (one system for hot and one for cold), there was a very slight sound which sounded very much to me like an escape of air not water - there is no sign of any moisture even on a very close inspection so lets assume its air from the accumulators?? 2x Shurflo 181-203 Do I simply replace them, are they serviceable, or could it be something else. All help gratefully received, particularly if its a quick check as they will only cost me £90 to replace them both and there's easy access to do it so not the end of the world. Yes £90 is a lot of money but I allowed for problems like this when we bought so there is a kitty! Cheers J
  9. And we bought a Brooklands Aviation Dolphin 24 centre cockpit from Blue Line Marina @ Braunston!
  10. Ditto - I love Highbridge boats as well, I did when they were newly built and I do still today - proper affordable strong boats - very underrated like Nauticus and Ormelite Enjoy.
  11. Try stokeboats they built a boat called larah with "windows" like this
  12. If you contact Tim at Warwickshire Fly he can supply (or he certainly used to) - as fitted to "Portugal"
  13. What you could do with that arrangement is put a second skin inside the hatch to allow light in when wanted and block it out when not - if done well you wouldn't get condensation.
  14. I love being misquoted by others.............. I started by hiring as I'm sure did many of you and yes, thanks Athy, my comment was particularly about those 2 boats which are promoted to people on the basis of their capability to cruise from London to Birmingham with no experience necessary Its CRT for licencing them and the company for peddling them who I would hold to account - I have seen and feel genuinely sorry for the unsuspecting inexperienced hirers expecting to be well received in Braunston on a wide beam in the height of the season Sorry blackrose there's no crusade to be had here at my expense..........................
  15. And long may that continue.................... The two that hire out of Milton Keynes cause chaos everywhere they go. FYI - Granthams Bridge hire out a great wheelchair accessible narrow boat Good thought we bought exactly that quite deliberately in our early days to learn how boats worked and it made what was at that time a slow refit a very easy job as everything was accessible and therefore adaptable
  16. found this old shot of our last RN powered tug at Granthams Bridge which might give you ideas
  17. Why not ask the guys at Stowe Hill what to do - after all you wouldn't want to let just anyone loose on such a great boat - are you also going to alter the kitchen layout to make it work or just get in through the cup'ds and or the new hatch I trust you have joined the Russell Newbery Register as well. Dave at Granthams Bridge (who also owns RN) might be able to help with the hatch thoughts/job as well he is VERY knowledgeable and a boater!

  19. Proper farm suppliers are a good source for all oils, filters and antifreeze always cheaper than the "high street" and never rubbish - have used this route for years. Remember you get what you pay for especially with oils
  20. Direct quote from a well respected surveyor on this subject It was predominantly 'Brum' based boat builders that built on a 6' 10" base plate setting the hull side plate perpendicular to the base plate - hence 'Birmingham square. Today Johnathan Wilson, Tim Tyler, Brinklow and quite a few more build to this style. Other builders build up off a 2metre plate 6' 6" and then set the plates with a slight tumblehome up to lower gunwale level.
  21. what other organisation regularly gives (new marina) consents/approvals to others to increase its competition?????????????
  22. Don't be so sure Richard has got to make sure there is enough for his pay off when the EA merger happens! At least the cyclists will be happy - more manicured towpaths with waterside vegetation for them to use - bet we won't see any of it

  24. Aviva do 90 days - all you have to do is - the policy holder must stay over for at least one night (and be able to prove it) in each 90 day period - app £50 excess on a £300 premium. I always use the same broker so PM if you want more detail
  25. my post #6 was well intentioned good advice based on 50 years experience - I'll leave this topic alone now....................
