  1. L+L Rufford Branch closed 16th January to 17th March 2017 for culvert repairs. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notice/7679/rufford-branch-marsh-moss
  2. I think that one is Jackson's Bridge (19).
  3. That one is due to Wigan being in Greater Manchester.

They're replacing one of those dreadful "back-breaker" ground paddles. Note the total lack of any safety equipment. The HSE guys would throw a wobbler nowadays! The factory chimneys are long-gone. I guess Fred Dibnah had something to do with that as he didn't live very far away?

The thread title had me rummaging through boxes and boxes of 35mm slides! These were taken in 1969 at lock 78 (Rose Bridge) on the Wigan flight.
  6. The Slipway pub at Burscough does indeed have a slipway but it comes to an abrupt end just below water level. There is a sheer drop off the end of it as a Land Rover driver recently found out. http://tinyurl.com/zno8q44
  7. Yes, that's the one. He was in such a hurry that he left a bottom gate paddle half-open at Appley Lock. Folks coming down after Moxy could figure out why the lock wasn't filling! Seems to be a lot of novices about at the moment?
  8. High speed yogurt pot on the Leeds-Liverpool just below Appley Lock (91) this afternoon.
  9. I believe that the one in pic #5 was called "Derwent".
  10. Taken near the Ring 'O Bells, Burscough ?
  11. A couple from top locks on the Rufford Branch.
  12. I was at St Mary's yesterday. They have 12 long-term berths available so I'm sure they would be pleased to rent you one of those for a week.
  13. The "repair" didn't last long. There was a CRT man on duty this morning letting boats through.
  14. Glovers swing bridge (33) had a new key-barrel fitted this morning. Yipee!
  15. Glover's swing bridge (bridge 33) on Wheat Lane at Burscough is out of action. We went through Friday 18th March and found that the BWB key was difficult to remove after operating the bridge. According to the locals, it's been like that for months and has been reported several times. We came back on Sunday 20th and found that there was a BWB key stuck in the console allowing any passing Tom, Dick or Harriet to operate the bridge. CRT have issued a stoppage notice with an update due at 9:30am on Wednesday 23rd March.
  16. It's a cormorant. Females are always ringed on their left leg!
  17. This fella was only a few yards away so there probably aren't many fish left for the mink to catch.
  18. An unwelcome predator spotted just below lock #4 of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal Rufford Branch today. They have been known to chew through a fibreglass hull so tupperware boat owners beware!
  19. 'Wendy Woo II' gets lower in the water every day. It's very shallow at that point so it's probably sitting on the bottom already. She's a long way from the River Wey. The picture was taken between bridges 33 & 34 of the L+L.
  20. Anyone know if any work has been done by CRT at Appley Lock (91) in the last week? Both bottom gate paddles were faulty a few days ago. The paddle on the towpath side gate had dropped off the vertical shaft and the paddle on the other side was very difficult to open due to the vertical shaft being badly bent.
  21. No skin off my nose. I'm a walker, not a boater !!!
