  1. Even the Lloyds registered marine plywood requires serious treatment to last outside. I'm surprised that more people don't use modern composite boards for fitting out, technology seems slow to be adopted by many on inland waterways.

    LPG Ovens

New world, leisure, etc. all seem to have gone the same way quality wise. We went for a dometic cooker last time and the quality is excellent, probably not ideal for home use being gimballed though. I did see an Italian made one at Denham yacht Station but can't remember the name, it was narrow and looked well made.

    LPG Ovens

Some lpg kits are fiddly to install, particularly the main oven/grill.Having fitted a conversion kit once i won't bother doing another. There are plenty of decent cookers on offer, with a wider choice available from marine rather than canal based chandlerys.
  4. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F202551068916 Another unusual Lister single with marine connections.
  5. BB also said in one of his posts that he intends to switch to a cartridge filter, so entirely relevant.
  6. I'm unsure of its use in census but have seen many items, particularly the work of tin smiths and the like, that is stamped 'maker'.

  8. I doubt very much if you will suffer anything else being affected by this one event, even though that silver residue is quite dramatic. It may well turn out to be a faulty battery, fingers crossed!
  9. This makes interesting reading, the effect of the gas on component faliure leads me to doubt the wisdom of installing an inverter/charger next to batteries. I'm fairly certain that this must be an uncommon event, and wonder just how high levels need to be to cause real harm. Neither link seems definitive, and having been closely involved in the charging of battery locomotives with no specified breathing equipment required. They contain hundreds of cells, all bubbling furiously when in the gassing stage and bad cells were a regular occurrence - all carried out in an underground depot complete with arcing from nearby trains.
  10. EBay should provide something, i ended up buying one from America via eBay as even with shipping it was cheaper than anything i could find over here.

  12. One of the differences being that the CS has external push rods. I believe the JP1 is also known as a 9/1.

  14. Likewise i know very little about Kelvin engines, but i'm sure someone here does.
  15. As you stated that you had filled the stern gland with grease, and that it was empty i am interested in why you don't know where it is. If it is safe to assume that you turned the stern tube greaser and that is remote from the stern tube, and that this required loads of turns, it would be wise to suspect that the packing has either disintegrated or that the assembly needs tightening. As others have said, if you follow the propshaft it will be at the end where it leaves the boat. If your drive is hydraulic, either follow these to the stern or trace the tube leaving the greaser. Either way, it will be situated at the centre of the stern of your craft. Then post a picture.

  17. A picture of your stern gland set up would be necessary to give an informed opinion, and depending on the type, repacking will involve fitting new packing and not just grease.
