  1. They surely need to leave on the day the festival starts then?
  2. Did the surveyor not suggest a figure for the works to be completed? They usually do, giving the seller the option of sorting the problems or discounting the price.
  3. 100356E Lock on the Pocklington Canal, sorry, don't know which one. 100224E - Lys-Con Vessel history dates this picture between 1976-1981 06/1976: Sold P/R Egil Slang & Leif Erik Simonsen ( LE Simonsen) Oslo, new name LYS-CON 09/1981: Sold Reykholskip H/f ( Olafur V. Sigurdsson) Reykjavik , Iceland, new name HELGEY
  4. I think we're agreeing here - the remainder canals in the 1968 act didn't have any boat size requirements - or indeed any need to keep them open! The T&C's in later restoration funding (if any) are the important information, but I've never seen them, just heard speculation on here.
  5. True, but weren't all the more recently restored ones remaindered in the Frankel report and the 1968 Act? Has anyone got copies of the actual agreements for places like the Hudd narrow, or are we all jumping to conclusions about what they may contain?
  6. I've seen boats with strips of either metal or plastic like "eyebrows" above windows, presumably to throw rainwater away from leaky window seals. It's a quick bodge instead of fixing the window seal, but as a winter workaround seems to help.

  8. Buildings » 100012E That's Holcombe Brook substation now, but was presumably built for the very early electrified Bury to Holcombe Brook line. 1927 was long after the line was electrified though, and I've no idea who LEP Co were - searching mostly gets you the Lancashire Evening Post! Duh. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancashire_Electric_Power_Company Or them, obviously!
  9. Ian Moss Collection » Railway, Light Rail and Tram » Stations » 100172E I'm going to guess this one might be Chorley Station ... Edit to add: 2003 or later because that's when they called it the Chorley Interchange after building the new bus station opposite the railway station. Also, Chorley football club are nicknamed the Magpies, but I'm fairly confident you knew that ...
  10. Funny you should mention it, but no I don't. #rebelwithoutaclue
  11. I fitted LED lamps into my nav lights of the same design for exactly this reason. They used to leak so the bulb holders were corroded and the incandescent lamps kept blowing. Two LED lamps of the correct size, clean and refit the lamp holders and thoroughly seal the covers, lenses and the join onto to the cabin sides. They don't meet COLREGS specifications, but they didn't with the previous lamps in either!
  12. 100006E if it was reversed would be Ellesmere port at the boat museum ...
  13. Interesting tiling and a nice building, beer selection is pretty good, but not as good as Wigan Central in the railway arches across the road.
  14. Do you mean the Swan and Railway?

  16. A roll of razor wire down the outside of the tailgates would mean everyone would open both ....

  18. I just stuck a lump of tape over mine, you can still hear it but it's not painfully loud anymore. Sometimes it pays to keep it simple!
  19. Cross posted with Jonathan, who's a grown-up sparky. On that mooring, probably. If the boat moves elsewhere and plugs into two others, maybe not.
  20. The best way to do this would be to upgrade your 240v electrical system to support 32A, not add another. It does mean you need to check all the wiring and the consumer unit are suitable for this. If the bollard feeding the boat is actually a 16A bollard that someone has put a 40A breaker in, don't!
  21. You mean like the spotters currently do? They just log the boats, saving the faff of fitting the black boxes ...
  22. They'd be even better if they opened in the correct direction!
