  1. I am not concerned about the BSC that was as an example but the fact that too many buyers are going into boating with eyes closed .They seem to give no thought to boats and boating. All money is spent on purchase with nothing left over for problems.
  2. Just seen another one on facebook spent all money on a boat and find lots needed to put boat right .This time a valid BSC but seems that past owner has left electrics in a dangerous state so new owner been told lots of rectification work required to pass BSC. I think this seems iffy from lots of angles More and more young people are falling in this spiders web .
  3. It would be interesting if they where to run a update on proposed plan and and progression of work throughout the period to completion.Me i would expect armco and lots of Puddle clay then use dredged soil to build up the banking followed by the planting of low growing shrubs .
  4. and scrotes are breaking into boatsas an easy target .The damage can cost more than a safe marina
  5. They have to sort Bosley leakage now at the last minute because Marple flight may reopen and that will be two losses of water from the top pound .
  6. Maybe its been a good thing Marple locks have been limited usage.
  7. Exactly I am with you so ok there may be a queue at the checkout but take a moment to talk to the others in the queue.
  8. Not good having to use their new blue sign to say Marple locks are bust.
  9. i think you are confused i have not mentioned council tax or planning in my statement .However the Residential should have Planning permission for the jetty and occupier can be liable to Council tax The live aboard jetty is a different matter as the boater has no rights to it and is time limited for occupying it as an occupant boaterwise not boat.
  10. Check out mercia Marinas system the have residential (right to the mooring can occupy all year) Liveaboards away from marina for set time (should be 2 months) and swap jetties i believe each year .This falls under the Rating valuation officer rules .
  11. Lock 15 work done by contractors so should have been a price job maybe even 3 quotes .Apparently not as it cost CRT more than they thought ?
  12. top lock 16 has a notice on the beam in the new blue but gates are unlocked ? Today no Crt bodies about so a 38ft went through .I do not know if they did the full flight or if they found lock 11 locked ? Apparently Richard Parry may be up this week. Probably explains all the Blue signs in the area.
  13. I think from the outset it was understood that CRT should sort the job out so that they where not reliant on Government handouts. So to increase the income They employed Chuggers = failed They got rid of skilled conscientous staff and employed contract firms (strangely these firms make big profits) They have channeled their energy into none profit making initiatives like Sustrans The fishing is a income stream that could be tapped more apparently £4 million worth of stock in canals yet where are the increase of fishing clubs leasing stretches ? The canoeing is being encouraged but no policing of licencing or mention of money from Canoe association Nature seems to be a big concern yet gives no income and is really responsibility of other bodies . They are happy that 3% of boats are not licenced yet they employ Enforcement officers whilst more boats show no name or number. There is big demand for long term moorings with or near facilities yet they are mostly empty and they keep removing them when a new marina comes along yet the new marina would probably not be willing to allow in lots of these boats for various reasons . They seem to be selling off income stream assets for short term gain .
  14. RBOA as it says Residential with planning permission moorings .A live aboard is not necessarily a CCer yet they do not push to enlighten marinas or councils that there exists a legal right to be a long term moorer without requiring planning permission.
  15. CRT seemed to consider IWA,RBOA etc as representative of boaters.I do not know the figures of membership but believe them to be a minority representation of boaters . CRT set up a committee of people which we voted for I personally have never seen minutes of meetings yet get the Damian Kemp news email. The early days IWA would have been a good pressure group for boaters but have lost their way i believe . Groups that are in place do not seem to be co-ordinating and lobbying Parliament for a voice which is the only way forward. CWDF and the FB sites have lots of boater members ok duplicated in many cases but there is no voice in CRTs ear from them from the Administration of any of them. I believe that the Boating side will lose out in the long term . The groups like Sustrans seem to have more input than any of us.
  16. Some councils have very strong metal bollards to restrict the width that soon gets the word out as reversing can be a pain.
  17. Selling off assets for a quick buck is the wrong way .Those assets should be fetching in a continuous income .
  18. My cruiser stern would get water run off from the Gunnels more so if the Bow fresh water tank was empty or low so i had some bund walls fitted across the step throughs and cured it.
  19. people in Reading already do this for the Londoners
  20. "Believe" = management speech for we know but are ignoring these problems even though they are obvious and have been pointed out in the past. Preventive maintenance no according to our accountants not financially viable.
  21. So seeing the plates are issued by CRT. For conformity will we all receive new ones then gongoozlers will be aware that we are part of the tourist attraction
  22. The logo is a representation of the hole that CRT upper management are digging themselves into
  23. Those top locks all have the same problem of water escaping into ground and then returning as lock empties .This erodes the ground and preventive maintenance over the years of repointing would have stopped this problem .
