  1. At over 6'4" I have a real problem with this. Only short fat and short slim boaters seem to be catered for. Tall is not an option.
  2. Please, please don't eat there!

  8. Somewhat self-evident in our time. He had better days. Are you suggesting there is insufficient justification for the existence of CRT? -a polite enquiry, as I don't quite get your point.
  9. This Thread If this was all I had to eat And these verses were my bread and meat At the very first suggestion I think I'd die of indigestion The stuff that makes the better meal Is the gentle hearts that they reveal -compliments to all from Paul

  12. So, perhaps CRT are creating stability problems in locks so that, when disaster strikes, they can heroically save the day and be loved by us all. I wonder, wouldn't it be ironic if they only brought about their own collapse? This is all, of course, just nonsense. But less nonsense than some of the above, IMO.
  13. Had a lovely day at home and in the garden near Lincoln. Boat on SUC over 100 miles away!

  16. I don't get it. Is PR more important than discovering the intentions of CRT? Your high but misdirected standards presumably mean you still don't know what it says. If you don't care, why not say so? Actually, you did say so, as good as. I hope this attitude (and your turn of phrase) are not typical of your organisation. Such bad PR!
  17. Easy to see how hirers could get sidelined. Looks like you need to stay with the plot. Thanks for this positive post, Alan. I suspect there is enormous inertia. The waterways are our heritage and by nature attract some very conservative types. These forums certainly give that impression. I just hope we can be modernised without the loss of the vital ingredients which have drawn us to the water. I do think more fairness is appropriate to modern times. Some, who benefit from the status quo, will resist that. Knowing little of Parry as I do, I hope your judgement of him is accurate. My thought is that there will be change, like it or not. We have to influence its direction as best we can.
  18. And people take them so damned seriously!
  19. No, I read it before commenting, thanks. We don't all shoot from the hip. But I can only type slowly because I have rather slow fingers. And again, perhaps unlike some, I like to think before giving an opinion. Your comment reflects only on you.
  20. And you are, of course, a fine judge of that. You argue your case so eloquently. Has abuse always won the day for you? Do tell... Not sure I can do that, as I already have too many plates spinning. And I'm probably not clever enough. And too ugly. But, I do think volunteers should be or'nary boaters in good number, ideally. You know what happens when you give a little man a little bit of power. I would hate to be monitored by some blue rinse with an ipad. Apologies to any blue-rinse ipad-owning members.
  21. This is a fantastic post! -in the best possible sense. And the 21st Century has only just begun! What larks! I agree, it is the delicious appearance of the bygone world that seduces the 21st century soul -mine too. But it is the appearance only. We cannot live there or in any other time. Pay as you go? No, pay as you stay. All in the interests of fairness, even when unfairly implemented. Thanks for the thoughtful response, Tuscan. Not sure what's so bad about that. I seem to swipe for pretty much everything else! And it might even ensure I can actually get onto a VM! I, too, hope they have big ears!
