  1. The different colours certainly do not help.
  2. The hull looks fine, shame it is topped with a collection of old sheds! But then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
  3. The brushes supplied for polishing the horse are medium soft and ideal as deck cleaning brush and do not damage the paint. Available from your local tack shop.
  4. As Tim says really. It also depends a lot on what system of wheel steering you employ. Whether it is hydraulic, cable or, traditionally on Dutch barges, chain. You don't get the same rudder feedback that you get from a tiller. As winter approaches, the cosy environment of a wheelhouse is very appealing.
  5. Yes, the filler/dipstick is indeed 18mm.
  6. The drain plug requires a 15 mm spanner. I have just checked it on the gearbox that is sitting on my workshop bench!!
  7. I think you would struggle to get the required heat loss to stop the system "kettling" and as you rightly say, without the pump running you would definitely be in trouble. It isn't a problem when a stove is shut down low but when you need good output for heating, it just overheats the water.
  8. I totally understand why people love them for their output, but they do ruin the look of the boat IMO.
  9. What makes you think she is ferro? 23 foot is very small for a ferro boat, she would just be too heavy. Wooden bilge keels as well. She looks a real rogue. Not worth the hassle I would say. Edit. On second look at pics, not wooden bilge keels, that was the rudder Skeg I was looking at.
  10. The drawing shows it as AF which means it is an imperial size key.
  11. That is an anti siphon trap. If the waste runs directly to a skin fitting and a short run, it is not necessary and can be replaced with an ordinary 1 1/2 bottle trap.
  12. I shall start this tongue in cheek thread with........ Do not let your crew throw a bucket of damp coal on the stove just as you enter Braunston tunnel!
  13. Short answer, no too tight. You will have to use a couple of elbows if you only want them 2 inches apart.
  14. Adjusted the throttle linkage on a boat that I was delivering so that the engine ticked over at a sensible rate, thereby, allowing travel at speeds in single figures!
  15. Mdf has no place on a boat, period. It is the work of Stan. WBP plywood or hardwood or marine ply is fine, gripfill or epoxy resin as an adhesive.
  16. Ah! The old "discarded cigarette" one or rather they have no idea what caused it. I hope it was well insured.
  17. Where do you propose to use said vessel. Far to deep draught and over powered for inland use.
  18. Yep, bilge paint, more durable when moving gas cylinders.
  19. What the title says really, what are peoples favourites and why?
  20. Yes, that is probably about right. Normally only about 50mm wide.
