  1. Just a thought (and I really hope i'm barking up the wrong tree) but is it possible the inside was stripped of anything of value such as fridge, stove, inverter etc. then the boat sunk either in deep water or somewhere out the way where it wouldn't be a navigation hazard and therefore wouldn't alert attention for a couple of weeks. Like I say hope I am wrong and not sure how it would help finding it.
  2. I can't be sure but I suspect the fire is this http://www.onemk.co.uk/8203-fire-in-warehouse-yard-behind-new-city-plumping-in-fenny-stratford-milton-keynes/story-29568007-detail/story.html
  3. The Chesterfield Canal Trust have a horse in training to pull their Cuckoo boat. http://www.chesterfield-canal-trust.org.uk/index.php/on-the-water/new-dawn
  4. This might have been suggested already (so please don't shout at me if it has) but is it worth someone creating an online view able table (perhaps only to those in the forum) recording areas already covered?
  5. Over the past couple of days i've been working in the West Midlands area and stopped at every Canal Bridge i've come across. Unlikely to produce anything but though it was worth a try. Just a thought I know we have the reg plates but they could be a red herring (although may not be) is there any way it could have made it out onto the River Trent or would it have been spotted by CRT too easily?
  6. I'm over that way for work tomorrow afternoon so if you (or indeed anyone else) do see anything PM me.
  7. There are various rules but from a canal you aren't allowed to remove fish except the exceptions (and a couple of others) as mentioned above. Sadly there are a lot of people break the rules. Some will take several hundred over a period of time.

  9. Normally I find Lidl's parkside range is of reasonable quality (by which I mean fine for the average house/garden use). The exception being a pressure washer I bought many years ago. It broke first time then took it back replaced it to find the fitments leaked so just got a refund. I have had several different ones but ended up back with a Karcher. Never looked back. If your budget can stretch go for a water cooled motor it does seem to help with reliability.

  11. I can't comment on the handheld Dyson models however the normal domestic ones are overpriced and not good at best. We replaced ours with a Henry which is a lot better and excellent with dog hairs. When I had a pub we had a couple and even with all the broken glass they never let me down.
  12. Actually they can under the 1971 theft act theft of fishing rights (e,g, not having a ticket/permission from the owner of the rights) is an offence. It's rare that it's used but there have been prosecutions and I understand in certain areas it is being clamped down on.
  13. In this world there is a huge variety of people. Some are good decent people some are the opposite (any everything in between). Some that fall into those areas happen to be boaters and some anglers. Being an angler or boater doesn't make you an idiot but many idiots do one or the other. Whoever has done this is to be polite a bad person who may happen to have pastimes that involve angling or boating. You can classify a group as being bad because of the actions of a small minority.
  14. We have an issue with the hour meter on the Taco connected to a Beta 28 (Beta panel as well). I've searched though the threads and a lot of people say they have had issues where they just need drying out. The rev counter etc. work properly so there is power to the panel. So far we have tried that and to be fair everything on the back of the panel was dry as a bone. All the wiring looks as it should i've looked at the wiring diagram but can't trace which wires feed the display. Any ideas what else to try or which wires feed the display?
  15. The phrase Time & Money keeps appearing on this thread which is unfortunately a common and understandable problem (it's one I have myself) that said if nothing happens and we look back at this in 20 years time how much will we have wished we made a bit of time. Money for an individual is always a constraint however for a group with some work it can often be found. I do wonder if there would be any future in at least seeing if we can establish ownership and then approach the owner as well as the land owner then going and seeing what we can find and establish if anything looks worth saving. I for one would be happy to at least be part of an initial group.
  16. I think people have bin skipping over the point of this thread.
  17. We are looking at a potential mid week break in September and have always wanted to see the Kelpies. I've been trying to find mid week hire boats in the Falkirk area but there doesn't seem to be anyone offering a Monday start. Can anyone suggest a hire firm?
  18. The fridge is essential. Without the balanced diet of Bacon and Sausages (along with a few chips every now and then) the crew can't operate effectively!

  20. Does it make much difference if it's open 24 hours a day?

  22. That's where the legal element often comes in. There is an offence (and I understand there have been several prosecutions) of theft of fishing rights. Generally but not always. There are some sections of Canal which are classed as a SSSI therefore the closed season still applies.
  23. As far as i'm aware fishing pegs can be reserved in terms of other anglers but not from boats. Just a bit of give and take on both sides required.
