  2. The Rochdale Canal was owned by NCP Carparks, they sold(?) It back to BW, the resevoirs were also sold to private company, hence the Rochdale struggles with water supply
  3. (3)Notwithstanding anything in any enactment but subject to subsection (7) below, the Board may refuse a relevant consent in respect of any vessel unless(a)the applicant for the relevant consent satisfies the Board that the vessel complies with the standards applicable to that vessel;(b)an insurance policy is in force in respect of the vessel and a copy of the policy, or evidence that it exists and is in force, has been produced to the Board; and©either(i)the Board are satisfied that a mooring or other place where the vessel can reasonably be kept and may lawfully be left will be available for the vessel, whether on an inland waterway or elsewhere; or(ii)the applicant for the relevant consent satisfies the Board that the vessel to which the application relates will be used bona fide for navigation throughout the period for which the consent is valid without remaining continuously in any one place for more than 14 days or such longer period as is reasonable in the circumstances. The last 7 words in the section are important - the word 'reasonable' is also important
  4. Not necessarily and now this government has cut funding, the shelters are few and far between
  5. You need to register your name with Damian - email him with boat name, availability and he adds your name to.the list
  6. Read the Terms and Conditions with your licence - it's on there - continuous journey stopping nowhere longer than 14 days, your log is reset apparently, when you return to your home mooring. However, the Act of Parliament makes no such assertion
  7. I agree, there is certainly a view out there that any pre 1980 boat is at the end of its life and we should all be on shiny new boats for our pretty canals for tourists to look out
  8. Recovering; it is so I can learn to self dialyse
  9. Forgive me, I had to go into hospital for a small operation and completely forgot to update everyone. However, this will appear in the June edition of Towpath Talk. I and your other Boating Reps met with Mike Grimes, Head of Boating, Matthew Symonds, Relationship Manager, Gareth Stevens, Head of Business Boating at the end of April. The meeting was fairly productive, most of the issues were already being addressed by CRT, which was somewhat reassuring. Discussion included that London is unique; therefore, CRT have proposed a mooring strategy in London, with a series of workshops planned (we would encourage those who can to go to these). The aging demographics of boaters and what plans CRT have to encourage families and younger people to take up boating, (although they seemed unsure how to support young liveaboards, particularly those with children) and the general lack of marine finance loans to purchase a Boat; ways of extending the Friends scheme and volunteering for boater's to be able to partake easily. CRT took some actions away - gap analysis of facilities provision across the network is underway but will be using boaters to understand these, how CRT might share data to support the national boating tourism, the approach to unpowered boats in tunnels; there is some work already underway regarding gaps in customer service facilities; the Boat Owners Survey (they aim to complete a survey of all boat owners in three years, asking a third a year) results to be shared. We felt this was a more productive meeting than the first Council Meeting, where there was little time for feedback, just lots of presentations, although we have been promised this will change in the future. It is important to note that we can only represent boater's properly if we know what issues you have and would encourage you to contact us and let us know The boating team will meet with Council boating reps quarterly, future meetings will be July, October and January. This is a brief synopsis and is my view, although I have shared it with the other Private Boater's Representatives.
  10. Or for CRT to pay for planning permission and associated costs to provide legal liveaboard moorings
  11. I agree, it was hearsay; there was no right of reply given at all or even corroboration. There have been further posts and Matthew Symonds stands by his statement that he didn't say it; but it was journalism worthy of the S*n or St*r
  12. I find the whole thing distasteful, there is a NBTA demonstration outside CRT Milton Keynes on the 10th May - very likely it is building up steam for that.
  13. That would be a solution except that CRT do not offer proper residential mooring because that (as someone else mentioned) opens a can of worms - you need to have planning permission, offer services - water, electricity, address etc. In truth, CRT work on a loophole with permanent moorings because they are non residential
  14. There is a bridge next to Piccadilly One which is where you go from one to the other

  16. Sorry, that was my error in writing - Clive is standing down but they were also looking to nominate a new position to the Appointments Committee. There are new trustees to be appointed, but the Appointment Committee post had to be filled now through the election of someone from the council who is elected. Therefore, nominations were sought and an election will be held shortly. Apologies for the confusion
  17. There is a festival and trading boats at Bugsworth Basin - get there early!
  18. You will forgive me, I wrote the above when on dialysis and just after going through my "I can't breathe" time. Lesson in don't comment at your lowest point and ignore the usual suspects. I was warned about certain forum members and so far they have certainly not disappointed. I will continue to feedback, solicit views etc through this and other means. If you don't like it, may I respectfully ask that you keep any comments as constructive rather than, at present, destructive.I am reasonably thick skinned, but I don't hold with negativity; renal failure and being told I will be on life time dialysis a month ago has taught me to accept things, change what you can and don't complain for the sake of complaining, a common theme on here at times Look to the positives, believe me. You are better off.
  19. Boater's update and this will be the way my communication to this forum will be conducted in the future as it appears that the majority don't want an update beforehand
  20. I think the phrase I would use would be Don't shoot the messenger - but there is an update in the latest Boater's Update sent out this morning - in future, I will just post the link
  21. I said I would report back and I have; as this is the only forum to protest - I may leave it to the Boater's Update in future.
  22. Possibly, it seemed to be in line with other changes made and with three other trustees deciding to step down; there will be further changes in culture. Further interviews are scheduled in the next month and announcements will be made on the new appointments in due course. I can't remember all the names, but Clive Henderson was one of them.
  23. i believe that some people are telling others that Allan Leighton is Chair of CRT, but not the Trustees - I refer them to this page regarding the trustees. Trustees Our trustees are unpaid board directors, taking collective decisions on policy and strategy and providing oversight of the executive directors. We have 10 trustees, and they are legally responsible for overseeing the work towards our charitable objectives. Allan Leighton, chairman Allan was recently appointed chair of the Co-operative Group. He is also chair of Pace plc, Entertainment One plc, Matalan Ltd, and Deputy Chairman of Pandora AS. He is a patron of Breast Cancer Care and a keen canal runner. He was formerly CEO of Asda plc, chairman of the Royal Mail and holds a number of non-executive chairmanships including Lastminute.com and BSkyB. He was also chairman of Race for Opportunity and an Ambassador for Prince Charles in Business in the Community. Allan attended the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard and has Honorary Degrees from Cranfield and an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Lancashire.
