  1. Following on from AF's post yesterday, spotted Indus and (didn't see the name but I assume) Pictus now heading south. Could this be a new game?

  3. Couldn't agree more. However if the BSS is not valid, the insurance may not be (if your mate doesn't tell the insurance company it is let, his insurance may be invalid anyway), and if the marina let slip to C&RT about it being let, the license will be invalid because it has no BSS. Bit of a minefield your mate may be walking into. As previously mentioned, others do it and get away with it, but Sod's Law will clobber someone sooner or later.
  4. The Plough in Simpson (just north of Fenny Stratford) has a good reputation for food, and quiet moorings.
  5. Not easy to see, I'm only getting very small pictures, but 3 of 9 looks an awful long way to fall out of bed!

  7. It looks like 'Brook' Bros or similar - ring any bells with anyone?
  8. I seem to remember some time ago that BW as it was then, were going to take over the 'Three Locks' pub. Did this ever happen? And if so, then C&RT are moving the goal posts mooring points to serve their own premises better. More trade, put the rent up, and whoever holds the license works harder for the same money, normal (whatever that is) cruisers are restricted, CM's lose a good spot - looks like everybody loses except C&RT. Is Parry on a bonus of some kind?
  9. When we lived on board we had a third tap in the galley with a quality filter in line (can't remember the make). As this was only used for drinking or washing salads etc, the filter lasted for ages. The water in the (stainless) tank was probably fit for drinking and I was always very careful when filling to avoid contamination (plus we'd had the boat from new), but it wasn't worth the risk - two people on board, one toilet, stomach problems, you work it out!
  10. Excellent post, and three significant questions that I doubt will ever be answered by Richard Parry. I thought this bloke was going to be a breath of fresh air - this episode is making me think again.
  11. Now for one of the more significant benefits of living on a boat - MOVE and keep a low profile!
  12. Name the mechanic concerned - they are apparently around for the next three weeks and can answer for their actions if they are so inclined. People who do good work have their name passed on, why not if they do bad work?
  13. Saw my old man whack loads of these taps in. The barrels were sealed at the brewery with a bung, and the trick was to line up the tap with the bung, and drive the bung back into the barrel with the tap, at the same time sending the tap into a tapered hole without spilling a drop - all with one clout! He was selling so much beer in those days the hogsheads were lined up all the way round the cellar.
  14. With agricultural land at (apparently - see post #7) £10k per acre, the title would be an added bonus. Although to be fair, I know this bit of land, and I'm not sure anything other than goats could graze on it (but I hasten to add I'm not a farmer!).
  15. I think its something to do with quantity of grass intake to methane produced.
  16. I think I'd rather spend that sort of money on this - 11 acres and 400 metres of canal frontage. (I know it needs dredging and edging but it is tempting!) http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-41921834.html

  18. If you've got a 24mm cutter, clamp another piece of wood under the existing hole, find the centre and drill/cut through both pieces.
  19. I think this IS a 'battery to battery' charger. I've got one, and it works fine in that it charges both sets of batteries - one starter and two leisure. Has nothing to do with 240v. As far as I understand it, it charges the starter battery from the alternator, which when charged, then charges the leisure side. I'm pretty sure I didn't pay anything near £330 for it, on memory it was nearer £280.
  20. Controls on 'Nutfield' taken October 2012. Does this show what you want?
  21. 10' rule? Testicular ventriloquist
  22. I thought that's what cruising was
