Maybe the OP should take this as a pointer and it’ll be the first thing to enquire about? What grade of board…is it treated…is it sealed etc not to my taste but it all appears well done at a first glance, I wonder what the floor’s done in ? and why do sellers rarely post a photo of the engine ??

It made my day when they sent me to Towneley Park with the Ice Cream Van because I loved driving up and down that valley, stunning scenery, the small villages on route looked like they’d all seen better days, but the valley with it’s rocks, streams amd waterfalls is beautiful, there’s a regular bus up and down I’m sure. …and yeah I used to get cheap diesel there too, and a particular pub which I never did get around to visiting

some physicists will have to tell me if I’m right or wrong, but I think it’s much harder and slower to drive my boat through a narrow bridge hole while pulling water than it would be if I were simply pulled through that bridge hole ??? With those who have experience steering a butty is it easier/quicker to go through a bridge hole than it is the motor? -
Fantastic! the freezer is minus 23, the ice cream staying proper cold …and the vodka chilled to perfection! just need to slice and salt a big tomato and life is good 😊

I would have thought a boat with the right shape would go faster when pulled through water than a boat with engine drawing water to pull itself? and of course fly boats had a right of way and worked 24hr with a change of horses -
ace 👍 now try keeping a freezer below -18 in this weather!

I’ve gotta ask: what do folk keep in their fridge? I ask because I’m a tight git and won’t put the fridge on for a pint of milk when I’ll readily drink coffee and tea black, And I’m never too far from a corner shop for fresh stuff, I remember when I had house I let stuff go off in fridge before eating it, I can’t see it any different on the boat 😃 cans and bottles of whatever will stand being rechilled when engine is on, and it sounds like a lot of folk on here eat out, so what do you all keep in the fridge?

I’ve gotta ask.. what bits did you leave in the fridge to make it worth leaving on? 😃

NBTA causing problems on the Thames
beerbeerbeerbeerbeer replied to Tonka's topic in Waterways News & Press
Boats have to go and die somewhere, there’s a certain aesthetic to a half sunken boat, quite poetic, Cigarette Island seems very appropriate for a gathering of dead boats for it is such a beautiful and idyllic place for them to finally come to rest -
getting rid of ash can be a tad controversial, most when out in the country will either chuck it in the hedge or leave it in great piles on the edge of the bank, some see this as fly tipping and bad for the hedge, personally, when countrified I sprinkle/spread the ashes over the muddy/puddly bits of towpath, in town it’s bagged (old coal sacks) and put in the bins dunno, which is better ? put it in a bag for land fill or scatter it ?

Great write up 👍 cheers, good to hear positive stuff. if you haven’t already, see if you can push your way onto a mooring at Hackney Wick and hang about for awhile, it’s quite an experience to see what’s going on there, if you’ve not been into Limehouse then I reckon you shouldn’t miss the chance too see it while you’re in the area. yes, Bow back sounds interesting and I wish I’d done a bit of research before hand regards exploring it. Maybe when I go down next year fingers crossed 🤞

Looks like a great place to go, according to Wikipedia it got it’s name ‘Cigarette Island’ from the name of the boat ‘Cigarette’ that used to moor there, am I in favour of boats dumped in sight of Hampton Court? hell yeah! Absolutely! the nastier the boat the better! -
beer in them days was so awful they all turned to Babycham

come on! put a cheery face on, 😃 it won’t last long if no one supports it either, let’s keep it among the top 3 reasons to visit Audlem.
