  3. If the seller is reading this, then polite "no comment" can say everything! The fact the OP is asking, implies he has doubts, and with others comments, there is not a lot more to say. Bod
  4. I don't know what to say........ If you can't say something nice, don't say anything. But it is good to see an optimist. Bod

    Ecofans

Interestingly, these tests were done with the Ecofan at the front of the top plate, rather than at the back, as per the instructions, that came with ours. I am firmly in the camp of the belivers, as in our boat, there is a definate improvement, in temperture, towards the back end. Our stove is at the front, and on the same side as the corridor. On the door between rear bunks and trad stern, engine ole, is a full lenght mirror, which condensates, after lighting the stove, it drys much quicker with the fan than without. (40-45ft away) Bod

  8. Drain the oil into a disposable nappy. Easy to put under, easy to get out. Just let it soak awhile. Bod
  9. Remember the "Distance" is the length of cable needed, not the straight line "as the crow flys". If the cable has to go under/around/over, its length may be far greater, than expected. Bod

    Well done and enjoy! Bod
  11. If you search Vetus stern gland,on here you will learn a great deal more! There has been a thread about them, and how to replace the seal when required. Bod

  13. Do I recall correctly that in another thread, someone recently travelling through London, was surprised at the number of hand writtern "For Sale" signs in boat windows. Maybe bargains to be had, in the south after all! Bod

+1 If you can get to Hillmorton, just outside Rugby, all can be seen. Bod
  15. I recall in the late 70s when I had motorbikes, many ignition problems were caused by excess keys dangling from the switch. Bod
  16. As I understand, if someone has a permanent mooring, they are entitled to Housing Benefit, etc. so for those on low income, they could be better off! When you park your car in a carpark, you agree by putting it there to abide by the carparks T&Cs, pay up or leave after a certian time. Yes you may get away with it, a few times, but when the clamp is fitted....you pay heavily....or lose the car. Correct enforcement is the key. Bod
  17. Different charges, for different zones, a common idea in London, I believe. Gives an income for correct enforcement, better facilities. Yes, there will be some who will be unhappy, by having a boat on the water, they agreed to the same T&C/Laws/guidelines, as the rest. Bod
  18. Create whats needed, long term moorings in London. Bod
  19. C&RT do have the power to sell moorings. Hence the auction system for long term mooring sites. A bookable system for short term, would cost to set up, but should generate profit in the mid-long term. Bod
  20. Can I ask the gist of the ladies comments please. Bod
  21. Remember Smart Gauge, only measures what % of available capacity is actually being used. A 110 amp battery, half sulphated will still read 100%, and only hold 50 amps. The real use of S.G. is to show how quickly the batteries discharge, in relation to how long charging takes to replace whats used. Quick to drop to 50%, slow to recharge, =heavy discharge rate. Quick to drop to 50%, quick to recharge,= battery worn out. Bod
  22. Here here. At last the direction to follow. The Trust should (must) get their facts correct, in every case, checked, and rechecked, before accusing. If the facts show that help is needed, then help to be offered. Easier now with a welfare officer. "Places" map guidelines should be worked out, and published widely. The intent should be to create a "song-sheet" that every one sings from. Once guidelines are set out, then dealing with awkward situations is much clearer. Bod
  23. I have a boat with a 35hp engine. Earlier in this thread, the idea was given that at canal speeds only 3.5hp was used to propel the boat. Can I declare 10% for Fuel Duty for propulsion? Bod
