  1. I do like the idea of taking photos of my boat next to nondescript hedging at each stop, maybe I could claim I moved as far as Scotland I actually had a phone call from Lisa Jarvis who stated I had to move a distance of 18 miles, this is what I am doing. If they insist on this requirement for CC then why have they not got a system in place to make sure we are monitored, putting patrol notices on boats and expecting boaters to submit prove the notices are innapropriate is just harassement
  2. I would be happy to take mooring on the cut if it was available, which it is not in my area, my only option would be to move into marina which is pretty much like living in a carpark having a boat on either side of you. Not what I want or want to pay for. C&RT are very much aware of the lack of mooring in certain areas and I feel a waiting list would be a much fairer system. But aside from this issue, C&RT expect me to move a distance of 18 miles, I do this and also take winter mooring. what I don't expect is to get harassed just because I am using the same mooring spots a couple of times a yr, common sense would dictate that if the warden has not spotted my boat for a couple of months then I have clearly moved away from his area and not parked up in a field nearby
  3. ok what I am doing is going from the City Centre of Oxford up to Anyho the distance being a total of 18 miles, I stop at around 8 places for about 14 days each. I work in Oxford so I do not intend to go further North. I am Adhering to the rules set by C&RT. My point is that if the warden does not patrol the areas I am moored and only sees me at about 4 mooring places then to C&RT I am not moving far enough. I have to prove that I am by taking photos, this cannot be right. I have actually been told by Lisa Jarvis that I need to take photos to prove that I am moving outside the range of the warden and moving 18 miles
  4. Anyway getting back to ME. I am moving the appropriate distance, but 18 miles isn't a long distance and only being able to moor for 14 days per place its inevitable the warden will see me at the same places at least 3 times per yr, they really need to put a new system in place because this is harassment
  5. According to C&RT I should be moving 18 miles which I do, but obviously when I turn around and head back down the canal I inevitable moor within the wardens range and as far as they are concerned that’s the only places " they ever see me moored at" their words. Coming back to my boat and finding patrol notices stuck to it is very distressing especially as they always include information on what they will do if I do not comply with their rules and they have to crane my boat out of the water.
  6. I wouldn't mind so much but there is one particular blue boat that is permanently moored at Pigeon Lock in Kirtlington, (where there is no permanent mooring) C&RT are aware of him and by their own admission never gets a petrol notice and according to him the warden just leaves him alone, and when I ask C&RT if I can have the same mooring arrangements as he has I'm told no and if I do as he does I WILL get petrol notices.
  7. After receiving a second inappropriate patrol notice I found out that this was due to the warden's patrol range being limited and in order to stop being harassed by Canal & River Trust I had to take a photo of every place I moored to prove I was moving the required distance. Surely this isn't right?
  8. it was just going to be a fish tank with goldfish, I was going to situate it next to an area where the wiring for my LED decking lights are, I was going to take the plug off both the fish tank lights and pump and using a connection box wire them straight into the 12v system. Would this be a dangerous thing to do?
  9. I want to set up a fish tank in my narrowboat, however I do not want to have to keep the invertor on for the led lamp and air pump, is it possible to wire both these things straight into the wiring for the lights and run them off the 12v system
  10. I have decided on a Blue Sky SB3024iL, only one UK supplier apparently £310, hope I live long enough for this to start paying for itself
  11. wow, not sure what I've started here, I borrowed a friends amp meter and the total output from my panels are 44V, I guess I have them set up daisy-chain style which means I need a more powerful controller, I have narrowed it down to either a morningStar or a BlueSky all the rest are ridiculously expensive, I just need to find out which out of the two I need, can I get away with the Morningstar 40A for example. sorry forgot to mention, I did fry my last controller, it charges very briefly in the morning then goes stright onto float with the digital panel blacked out, £50 down the drain. this solar power route is getting really expensive, at this rate I'm going to have to double my boat insurance
  12. I installed it late in the afternoon, so the panels wouldnt have been at full capacity, so I doubt I have fried the thing, in any case why is it rated 40A if you cannot load 40A worth of panels to it?
  13. I have just purchased a 40A victron solar panel controller, I hooked it up correctly with my batteries at a 11.44V stage of charge but nothing happened, no lights came on and when I got home from work no charge had got through from the panels, does anyone else have one of these and are experiencing problems, I know its not a loose connection from either my batteries or panels as I first disconnected a working controller to fit the Victron. I have nothing connected to the LOAD input. Also if I have 4 x 100W panels should I be playing it safe and going up to a 50A controller
