  1. Yes, because it’s near the Isles of Scilly and they were lucky to survive.
  2. SI units are the internationally accepted units in science, like litres, volts and amps etc. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_System_of_Units
  3. Glad to see the change of heart re doing it in phases.
  4. I didn’t know SI units like the metre were ambiguous!!

  6. It’s lovely, but tiny. It has a good butchers & pub within 100m and looked great last Christmas time.
  7. We were there in July 2019 and I’m sure there wasn’t a tap for every two boats then. It might have changed since. If you enjoy good food and particularly fish & seafood, try The Italian Club on Bold Street. We had a fantastic meal there.
  8. There are toilets you can use at Albert Dock. I think there may be showers, someone may confirm that. There isn’t a water point at each finger jetty. You may need to borrow a hose if yours isn’t long enough.
  9. For even more silliness try the link. Thank you Matty http://cygnusjobs-4-u.net/
  10. Works well, but better still Is to start facing east south east, then turn towards the south. That way Astra 2 is the first signal you get to, not the second.
  11. Have you moved south? It’s warmer than up north!
  12. Good news, shows us that it is worth giving CRT constructive criticism and getting in touch with the council once in a while.
  13. I think they are well aware of the situation. I don’t want to post what is a personal email from the councillor, without their permission. I don’t think there’s an issue with pasting this section: The Town Council are aware of this and I’ve personally been involved in quite a bit of communication with the CRT over this issue, like you, we are somewhat perplexed by the timing of this proposed work and the disastrous effect it’s going to have on the loss of boaters, visitors and tourism to the Town and the ultimate effect it’s going to have on our Towns businesses, on what for many of them is their prime trading season.
  14. I have received an email from Market Drayton council this morning from a councillor who has been in touch with CRT for a while. So they were aware of the situation, but obviously not delighted as per the timing. I just hope that CRT at least do the work in separate phases.
  15. Having just had a response this afternoon from Market Drayton council, I get the impression they didn’t know about it before I got in touch the a day or so back!

Hi, I’ve sent you a personal message with a few ideas. Cheers Michael
  17. As others have said, there will be nowhere nearby to moor. if you don’t know the Shropshire Union well, Market Drayton is one of just two bigger places (the other being Nantwich, if you ignore Chester on the north section) that have larger supermarkets, a range of restaurants, pubs and other services.
  18. Didn’t see them, but they apparently passed us while we were moored yesterday. I’m not into celebrity, so let’s hope they can enjoy the rest of their holiday without interruption.
  19. I’ve now had a response from Market Drayton council that the town clerk will be looking at the situation. I’ve also had a response from crt (included below) who don’t seem bothered about the impact on local businesses. Let’s hope that common sense reigns and they either postpone the work or at least do it in stages as has been suggested. Hello Michael, Thank you so much for taking the time to contact us. I am so sorry for how this will impact negatively on you and other boaters. These concerns have been referred to our Regional Team who will update the stoppage notice if there are any changes. I must ask for your patience in the meantime, I'm afraid. Best wishes, Clara diniz Customer Service Advisor
  20. What is meant to be wrong with the towpath based on the photos? What is “Orientation Signage”? A sign with an arrow saying “up”? I’ve now emailed a friend (an ex-boater) who has a large business in Market Drayton. I’ve asked if she can let fellow business owners know that they will be getting less business. They can all let crt know if they’re unhappy.
  21. I have now emailed crt and Market Drayton council in case they didn’t know. The loss of income to their town will be immense.
  22. CRT have announced the closure of the visitor moorings for the busiest part of the boating year. I bet the local pubs, shops and hire fleets will be delighted. Talk about terrible timing. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/20056-towpath-between-victoria-bridge-and-market-drayton-aqueduct-shropshire-union-canal
