  1. I would be less embarrassing if it hadn't happened last year. Also if the 2FA to access the domain account wasn't to email a code to an @canalworld.net email address, which goes down when the domain does. Just like last year. We have now changed the email address as well, like we said we would (and I thought I had) last year.
  2. It appears the domain name had failed to auto renew and expired again. Now renewed for the next 7 years until 08/03/2031 May take a moment to propagate through.
  3. One day we might even renew the domain name before it runs out! Domain next due for renewal 08/03/2031 Wish us luck.
  4. We are aware of the issue and looking into it currently. Apologies
  5. It appears that currently the site is experiencing some technical issues as listed below. - View New Content page is not finding content, hence appears empty. - Posting a new topic or replying to and existing topic is taking a long time. - Possibility following a short outage of the site at around 9.45 this morning. Please bear with us and we will resolve it as soon as possible. Thanks Daniel
  6. Pros and cons to all things. As Richard suggests, during an update, often some of the settings we have in place are over written and or changed, which is frustrating if they go unnoticed as it effects how the site works. Personally I do not have strong feelings as to if site staff can have 'greenies' or not. It was originally turned off as it was abused when new, but I expect that time has now passed, and the system has changed and involved quite a bit since then. Daniel
  7. Seems a reasonable compromise to me for now. Two posts made in quick succession have automatically merged on this site for a every long time. I don't know what the previous (original) time spacing was, maybe 10-20minutes at a guess? As said, avoiding spam etc is a constant moving target, and there are a wide range of ways of stopping and or greatly reducing it, at which point its a case of balancing stopping spam, with allowing legitimate use with the least resistance. Daniel
  8. I used a Samsung phone without issue, typically using 'Brave' which is a chrome based browser. Sometimes I get an issue where text typed in gets in a mess, overtypes its self, doesn't appear where the curser is, etc, but this is very rare and not exclusive to this site. Daniel
  9. Even better. Worth remembering to have a fire alarm also.
  10. Depending on the battery clamps you have, often even if using the tapered fitting, the leads will terminate in a crimped on tube lug giving an 8mm eye anyway. At which point, especially if your taper fittings are aging, you could likely switch to using the 8mm terminals without complication and pottenally even a small cost saving on not replacing the taper lug adapters. I expect the performance difference of either is negligible however.
  11. Yeah, there are a few who where keen at one point and I spoke with them last two years ago but there doesnt appear to have been much activity. Obviously also plenty of other waterways groups, on facebook, here, and and otherwise, where people can get together and the like. Does sound like a reasonable option, although I expect they are uninsulated? Debdale also offer highspec grit blasting and hot metal spraying, very switched on outfit from all I have heard. On my list to try and visit one day. Daniel
  12. Hello, as site owner I am happy to authorise you to create a thread and post your March 2023 offers, with a link to your website. Please post this in the links directory, as below. We have the links directory, which you could hide from your fee if you wished. The term is slightly dates, but otherwise the concept is reasonably sound. https://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/forum/20-links-directory/ Thanks Daniel
  13. A good reminder at any time, especially as seasonal users return to our boats this spring. I believe having a CO alarm is now a recommendation of the BSS which should improve the situation and make the more widespread the BSS website lists alarms tested to BS EN 50291-2 and stated as suitable for boats: https://www.boatsafetyscheme.org/media/294453/bss-co-alarm-guide-2019-comp.pdf bss-co-alarm-guide-2019-comp.pdf
  14. Doing a bit of thinking about the history of our boat, EmilyAnne, built by this firm circa 1990. The hull was build by 'Watercraft Ltd' a small fabrication firm with a history of making a numbers of narrowboats, based in Worcester, and I have always wondered if anyone else knew anything about them, or the boats they produced. I believe uncle who lived in the area spotted a narrowboat of a slightly unusual dutch-barge style in their yard, enquires where made and permission from the customer of that boat given to make a second of a similar style, with my grandfather commissioning them build a hull for him, modified to a deeper draught to suit the steam plant and larger propeller, bespoke cabin layout etc, which after being fitted out back home in Bolton (including the folding wheelhouse), became Emily Anne. Therefore specifically, there should and or could, well be a 'sister boat' of very similar design, which would be very noticeable to me if I ever saw it, key traits would be the bow and stern fabrications, and 'shear' seen in the gunnels, I would assume, unless these where changed for our boat. But yes, if anyone knows anything about this builder I would be very interested. Spoke briefly to 'Crafted Boats' in Worcester earlier in the week, and they have confirmed that they are not the same firm, but the proprietors father ' remembers a company by that name in the 70’s but can’t remember any more information about it', nothing else on the internet really at all. So presumably they ran sort of 70-90s but didn't really make the internet age. Thanks Daniel
  15. There is some of this, mixed with a bit of gently allowing the 'brand' to fade. But yes, I'll be 36 this year and now have a young child of my own! We're going off topic, but if anyone is interested how it got there, this is us loading the car.
  16. I believe last summer (2022) was better if not quite to normal, and anecdotal evidence that this issue had been largely resolved? Just reviewing threads which are 'pinned' to the top of the forum.
  17. I am not directly connected to the sale, but know the boat and owners reasonably well as fellow steam boat owners. The boat is I would say in the best condition she has been for a long time, and should represent a good buy if your interested in such a craft. Daniel
  18. It's my car, and I'm happy with it being posted, and and happy all others involved would also be happy for it to be shared. Thanks for the thought. Daniel
  19. Thanks very much Rich. Excellent service as always.
  20. All very interesting. Also slightly interesting that the locks are I believe 72 ft, unlike any other Leeds Liverpool locks which are more like 62ft, thus allowing 'full length' southern boats to Wigan.
  21. Great work Rich. Thanks again for planning and executing these updates, both behind the scenes and on the front end software updates. This site wouldn't be here if it wasn't for our members, however it also wouldn't be here without our dedicated volunteer staff who run the sites technically, keep our finances adding up, and our moderator who ensure the content works for everyone. Thanks Daniel
  22. Great work. Topic moved to boat building and maintenance section. Thanks
  23. Always a good start! Hopefully these two image help. On a full size computer or large tablet, there will be a button on the top ribbon menu which will take you directly to the donations page: On a mobile device or smaller screen, as said you need to hit the 'hamburger' logo at the top of each page, and that will give you a pop-out menu with the same choices as the ribbon bar. You will then be taken to a screen where you have a choice of donation amount pf £6, £12, £24, £48 or £100 which you can 'add to cart' and then check out. You can also stack the options, if for instance you want to donate £18 or £30, £36 £60 etc by adding more than one amount. The site will then remind you to 'renew' your donation 12months later, but will not take any money without you processing the renewal and payment. Hope this helps, and a huge huge thank you to all the member who do donate, and quite literally fund the site operations. None of the staff nor myself take any form of payment, with every pound we receive going on the software and hosting costs. Thanks Daniel
