  1. You are thinking of Lombardini.....Nanni use the same Kubota base engine as beta with different marinising parts. Lombardini seem to be more popular in sea going boats mainly because they are lighter due to using alloy castings....there's a few in narrowboats but they seem to be mainly older budget builds. And yes you are right that they use a cam belt which needs changing...for the life of me I can't remember at what hours. Cheers Gareth
  2. Personally I like the waeco unit...means I can leave the fridge independant of the battery's when I'm on a hook up...leaving rest of 12v off if I'm away....meaning if there's a mains failure I don't come back to a flat battery bank as I would do if running thro a charger. Some people seem to be making this quite complicated when for £50 there is a ready made solution! Cheers Gareth
  3. I have mixed feelings about marina security....the idea of gates on the jetties is good but it's rather annoying when you wander down to find you have left the fob or keys on the boat....after the 3rd time.... One we stayed in even needed the fob for the bin store.... I'm not sure there is a simple answer really. Cheers Gareth
  4. What you need is a waeco MPS-35 rectifier. Works with any danfoss bd-35 compressor powered fridge & auto selects between DC & AC. The output is 24v but the BD35 is fine with that...the lamp in older shorelines might not be tho. They work well. Cheers Gareth
  5. I'm not sure that peel can give boaters much less....maybe if they close the canal to navigation?? Cheers Gareth.
  6. Whilst I'm not usually one for advocating free loading I think the way this charge has been brought in I would take the risk if purely doing an out and back transit. Considering the facilities provided for boaters such as refuse disposal and even moorings are limited to say the least I think they are being very unreasonable. Even the main honeypot site at castle field lacks anything other than a water tap now. However I bet the boats that always seem to be on the prime visitor moorings are still there! Cheers Gareth
  7. Really? Most modern upvc doors are eurolocks...even with multipoint locking the weak point is the eurolocks. Have a look down most uk streets. For such a naff design they are very popular! Cheers Gareth
  8. Even if fitted with a deadlock they aren't that hard....have a Google at how easy it is to snap a Eurolock which is by far the most common type of lock fitted to houses....you can buy uprated eurolock barrels but their not cheap...I've done it to my mothers house but you can only do so much unless you want to live in a prison.... Cheers Gareth
  9. Thanks for keeping us updated as much as you are able. Hoping you get to enjoy your boat again soon. Cheers Gareth
  10. Given that the boat stolen was fitted with a Yale lock I'm not sure the type of lock makes much difference! Cheers Gareth
  11. Our home marina has a rather nifty metering system built into to supply pillars which uses a PIN number to activate the socket once you are plugged in and disconnects the supply when you take the shoreline out meaning no one else can pinch your power! It also meters the used electric and the usage is added to your mooring account. It's not the most common way of doing it tho sadly.q Cheers Gareth
  12. The resale price can be higher per unit for commercial property....but not residential property....what category marinas fall into could be a bit fluid. A marina we stayed in as a visitor last year had an eye watering unit rate...they operated on pre pay cards...made me glad my marina has a cheap unit rate and a service charge. Cheers Gareth
  13. I wouldn't call that nothing personally. If the boat has been found through the actions of people on the forum I wonder if the loss adjusters might like to give any reward money to a good canal cause or two? Cheers Gareth
  14. Wow. Top marks for you. Zero marks for the police. I do hope that even if it wasn't the right boat that you are correct and the boat has been found. I'm guessing that if it has the owners might be limited in what they can say for legal reasons. I'm sure they will update as soon as poss Once again many thanks for doing your bit. The beers on me when we next meet! Cheers Gareth
  15. I was hoping for a search party at first light.... Cheers Gareth
  16. I'm a great believer in using the West Epoxy system on anything wooden....then paint over the top...one tip is use a general or metal primer over the epoxy...wood primers don't work at all on top of epoxy. There is lots of info on the West website. Cheers Gareth
  17. Someone must be close enough for a look.... Anyone up for a road trip?? Think of the glory over nbw!! Cheers Gareth
  18. There is life outside London.....and like living on a boat I'm guessing having a child is a choice too...personally I value living afloat and the freedom to move about so that was one of the many reasons I don't have kids. Cheers Gareth
  19. Now at the end of the Monty....nothing here I'm afraid...sorry Cheers Gareth
  20. I'm amazed that it doesn't have a quick release bar....even my 1983 Mike Heywood has a bar & hand operated clamp....or do Hudson owners have a man who comes out with a spanner for them?? Cheers Gareth.
  21. If they care to live up to their name and travel outside of London.....and it might come as a suprise to a lot of them that the canal system does extend beyond the M25.... They will find that shockingly permanent moorings are available as is rentable housing.....I'm sorry but having children is a "lifestyle" choice.....just like living in a particular area or choosing between being on land or in a house....sometimes you can't have everything..... I would quite like a large house with a mooring and a workshop....so my mother can live in the house while I have the mooring and workshop....surely the powers that be should give me this for nothing....it's my right after all........ Not impressed I'm afraid. Cheers Gareth
  22. I'm at the end of the ellesmere arm at the moment...and I'm on the lookout!.....going down the monty tomorrow but you do need to book in with northwich office for that...who may or may not cross reference stuff if it's using a false ID....will keep a close eye out....off towards Llan on Monday. I did wonder about Prees branch and the marina. As aside if you had a large marina such as Sawley...Mercia etc.....how easy would it be to tuck a boat up on an vacant berth for a while without anyone noticing.....if you've got enough front I'm sure you could get away with it for a bit......I know some marinas are more diligent than others.....if you moor in such a place it might be worth a wander round..... Cheers Gareth
  23. Good grief.....I agree with NBW...... I think I may need to lie down for a while..... Cheers Gareth
  24. Edited to add There are the lockies and Vlockies at Grindley brook most of the time but they don't routinely take boat details.....I also think you can pass thro without them if you are "out of hours"
  25. When we came thro Hurleston a few days ago about mid afternoon on a weekday there wasn't anyone from CRT about....and all the buildings were locked up...so don't rely on them spotting it.....we will keep our eyes open up this way. Cheers Gareth
