  1. Sister in law works for Derbyshire authority and they have Marina moorers who claim housing benefit but she wasn't aware of any who cc and she didn't know how it would be decided which authority would pay if you went out of one authority in to another. It sounds difficult if not impossible.
  2. Farm shop at Wheaton Aston on the A5 £4.99/kg for shin of beef- makes the best beef curry.I find supermarket chicken a bit bland so would pay a little more for one from the farm
  3. Brilliant- we need some Thanks for the tip

  5. That sounds really simple and nice- I haven't had carbonara for ages after trying some poor offerings- time to have a go at making it. Thanks for the recipe

  9. The effectiveness of an ecofan can be down to the size and layout of the boat. Our fire is midway down our small boat corridor side ( hope that makes sense) and the fan distributes the heat down the corridor into the sleeping area. It has made a difference for us We went with the 4 blade valiant one from midland chandlers on a freaky friday
  10. I'd be tempted to ask him if he fancied joining us for an afternoons cruising - you never know he could be converted
  11. Our fridge had what looked like speaker cable and we had similar problems. We changed the batteries and the cable to 10mm which was probably overspec for our little boat we subsequently found the batteries were OK so think the cable has made a major difference. It's been fine since.
  12. OurJrt has really taken to boating. We did buy him a life jacket thing but he hates it and tries to rag it off. He hasn't fell in as such but did decide to jump into the green weed that coated the erewash a couple of years ago. He swam back and was lifted out by his collar and bum. We have a skirt around the cruiser stern which we can fasten to stop him getting off. On a separate point - is microchipping becoming law. I've noticed a lot of found dogs have no collar or chip and its a good way to ensure lost dog and owners are reunited
  13. Some of the large blue barrels are food grade- think they are polyproplene. Dont use anything white or clear- moulds will soon grow. Does your filter system take out micro-organisms such as bacteria?

  16. Probably not- The council and the police have tried to move the drinkers on- some now frequent the Town hall area or memorial gardens On a separate note- If anyone is stuck and needs anything, just shout- I live nearby and happy to drop any essentials or shopping off or if you have any queries about local facilities Hope it gets sorted soon but looks like at least another day. It's typical thats it happened on the school holidays and with at least 3 hire companies whose boats regularly use that stretch
  17. A friends daughter has just put a deposit on a boat which she will live on with her husband and 2 sons and I quote part of her conversation from the weekend We're going to moor it at Branston because that's where we work For those who don't know the area- there isn't a Marina, they're going to live on the towpath in one place They have done little if any research and don't understand the obligations of ccing. They see it as a cheap and idyllic way of living and don't know much about boats- they've had one holiday on the broads Is this a widespread issue and if so how can people be educated in advance. I don't know if they're a one off or there's lots of people with this mentality who don't research and just rush in
  18. Bought an akura TV / DVD combined 12v and 24v off eBay 3 years ago for the boat and its been great

  20. I didn't get a reminder although they argued they sent it plus I had the same log in issues- they've changed their web site and my old log in was no longer valid. I rang them and spoke to one unhelpful person and then tried again and spoke to someone who did resolve it. That was end of April so they've made little progress

  23. If you get stuck - message me and I'll nip one over- I only live 10 minutes away and pass that way regularly. Enjoy your holiday
  24. Stopped at the Swan- Fradley last Sunday lunch. We've had a few bad meals there in the past so had almost given up on it. The carvery was ok- £10 for main and dessert plus coffee- Good choice of meat, veg a little over done,, good choice of desserts. It does seem miserable though- no one behind the bar smiles or chatters or seems friendly- an odd atmosphere, but it still seems to get the trade because of it's location. It always makes me think of the Greyhound at Hawksbury, where the food is good and the staff friendly and you feel welcomed.
