  1. serious post, sorry! I thought they stated 20 miles? And it's not the sum of distance travelled but a minimum (20 mile) range. So doing 2 miles x 10 but within a 20 mile range wouldn't qualify. At least, that's what's been bantered about lately. And I've got 5.5 precious years until 65 :-)

  3. I do know that you can't have copper pipe linked to the Aldi due to it's boiler having an aluminium heat exchanger which would cause galvanic corrosion to the aluminium and of course you can't have plastic pipe from the backboiler of the stove. Am not sure if this would be ok being separated by the individual coils in the calorifier although conduction could still take place between the two coils. Maybe a question for Alde?
  4. apologies if this has been covered but my boat has been on a private mooring off the cut (and hidden from view) for 9 yrs. There's no way CRT would know when it's there or not. So if I want to go cruising at weekends, I can go to Uxbridge, Denham, Harefield so as have time to get back, moor up and prepare for work on the Monday. So effectively, I would be cruising my boat in the same areas every weekend. Further, I'd want to make regular trips after paying for a licence as CRT won't provide a short term licence due to my mooring waters being directly connected to the cut!
  5. Have you adjusted the low and high flame settings? The manual explains how to do it. Also, has the trim of the boat changed?
  6. Well done, really pleased for you after everything. Enjoy!
  7. If you have a new boat built under the RCD standard and you can prove (?) that it will be your home, the builder applies for a VAT waiver on the construction, materials and even all of the fixtures and fittings. I believe it also has to exceed 17 tons displacement.
  8. My point - no breath test required. And from the original posts, she was most definitely disorderly, abusive etc.
  9. Yet H&W built my ex boat Marcellus and she was as tough as the proverbial brick 'out' house!

  15. There you go again - making assumptions/incorrect statements re 'unqualified'! Read between the lines of the original statements rather than get carried away with how the blog goes 'off topic' and/or 'off the point in question'. :-) that's intelligent!
  16. Point being missed as is often the case on here.. My comments were in response to "Sounds like the actions of someone that is having a few mental health problems. Lets hope she gets the help that she needs." i.e. it infers that it's almost decided that she DOES have mental issues and let's FEEL for her. I bet most of you with this sentiment would consider that the majority of all those who harm, maim or kill others MUST SURELY(?) have some form of mental health issue. I must admit, I used to have this view or at least am aware that it is one that I would have expressed before 'stuff happened' and then learnt that nothing could be further from the truth. This knowledge only emerges in the most extreme of cases that we, the ever so pragmatic public, are not privvy to. Approximately 87% (given to me by police) of crime is committed by people who are proven to NOT have a mental health disorder. Personality disorders yes, but these people are very rarely aggressors. And as previously mentioned, alcohol and drugs are not mitigation in law.
  17. I wouldn't react at all if they killed me! Not unless a medium became involved anyway ;-)
  18. Have recently fully refurbished the pump on my K3. Was a long journey. I believe yours is a single-acting as opposed to double-acting lift pump. However, the pump gland had been overtightened before we bought the boat (rather than replace the packing) which resulted in the internal rod being slightly bent. This in turn created oscillation and wear in the pump liner. At first, we just replaced the leather seals but it still peed out and upon further inspection discovered the above. Had the pump rod turned down, sleeved and a better pump liner/body. All ok now apart from a nasty leak from the exhaust manifold outlet. I understand that the manifold can be bypassed from the coolant supply as not really required. I think the new seals may have been a neoprene disc x 2 or 3.
  19. My point was the fact that getting pissed, whether due to any mental health problems or not, is NO excuse!
  20. Are you a social worker by any chance? Not everyone who drinks excessively or who has an aggressive/violent temperament is mentally ill. This is fact. The Law states that "If someone kills someone whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs then this is NO mitigation for their actions and they must therefore be found guilty as charged". If they killed someone and are then subsequently assessed (by a team of psychiatrists, not 'do gooders') to have been been mentally ill (under the mental health act) then they MAY be eligible to plead diminished responsibility whereby the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) MAY introduce a secondary charge of Manslaughter in addition to the primary charge of Murder. It would then be down to the jury to find their verdict on each of the two charges. This woman is irresponsible, has an aggressive nature and unless this was the first time she got drunk (yeah, right!) then she herself would know what her capabilities and/or attitudes are. I agree with another comment on this blog that her boat should be immobilised at the very least. And if the powers that be actually care about her own welfare, then surely it should be considered if she's safe around water full-stop. My sympathy to the innocents who have had their idyllic lifestyle marred/scarred by an individual selfishness. There! :-)
  21. I take it you're not an inland boater? It's always the boat BUT the applicant is a person and CRT have/are proposing to stop licences from being transferred with a boat to ensure that the new owner/applicant understands what is required of them re licencing T&C's.
