  11. For a cup of tea, boil on the cooker, for a shower, run the engine which will also charge your batteries.
  12. No I never drained the tank, as far as I know your lift pipe should enter the tank from the top, this is for safety reasons. If your running out of fuel with 6" on the dip-stick I would assume your lift pipe is 6"to 7" from the bottom of your tank you could lengthen it for a smaller reading but also you might suck up a load of 'crud' if the tank is not clean,
  13. I had exactly the same problem many years ago with my BMC, I was constantly cleaning the lift pump filter, I tried cleaning the tank out but never managed it to perfection! ended up sawing two ins" off the lift pipe in the tank, and never had the problem again.

  15. I've just had a look back on the search button and found loads of info on the paper logs just type it in and you'll find a few pro's & loads of con's I think I'll stop making them until I've burnt the ones Iv'e made then I will form my own opinion.
  16. Iv'e just been bought a paper log maker, where you soak loads of news papers or tow path mags stuff it into a mold, press the water out and hey-presto a paper log. The main problem is I made half a dozen on boxing day, just to try it out and I'm still waiting for them to dry out! Don't even know if they will burn properly,I made these at home and have had them in-doors, so would imagine they'd be almost impossible to dry-out on board. The idea seems alright and frugal, but time will tell. The mold or press is made by Black Spur (maybe that says it all)
  17. Iv'e used black grate polish and rubbed it up but still find it comes off no matter how much you polish it up,I'm still trying to find the perfect answer! if there is one
  18. The Op states that everything is new, boat stove, the lot, surely then you should contact the builder and let him put things right certainly I wouldn't be removing any baffle plates or you'll do no end of damage.
  19. We've not got walkie talkie's, but have considered matching Anorak's.
  20. The Lockie at the Bratch on the Staffs&W has told me he gets abuse and he's being doing it since time began! He also says that they have a job getting volunteer's, and when they've done their training they very often don't turn up for their shift! But would you, if your being abused?
  21. Is the top greaseable ? Generally the top bearing is sealed for life only the pivot part is grease-able I had this symptom awhile back and ended up fitting a new bearing
  22. A really good accumulator can make you loads of money!!
  23. What is the opinion of the forum as the best way to approach Braunston (and similar) tunnels where boats can pass? Stay in the middle? Stay close to the wall? Maintain speed? Slow down for on coming? Never respond to verbal abuse
