  2. I read the topic as "what can be done about continuous moaner?" and thought get a life, now I've been to Specsavers my opinion hasn't changed. CaRT may be aware, there may be medical issues, alcoholism may be one, maybe not, without the whole story who can say? K

  6. I've got a D61B and all I can say is it does what it's supposed makes cold water hot, but they all do that so what's there to choose between them? Replacing a 51 with a 61 makes the most sense as is may just be a straight swap, however, you need to measure the hole in the roof early D51's came with an 83mm flue, later models and the D61's have a 90mm flue. If you have the smaller flue then as Alan says you may get luck and take out a spacer or you may need to cut a bigger hole in the roof. 7. I can't imaging why I'd want to light a fire or run a generator other than it being cold and me needing electricity, am I the only boater that does this? Even in a marina many boaters still light the fire. K
  8. Doesn't that mean you'll have to pay 20% VAT as it's not a private sale? K
  9. As said CRT but it's the centrepiece to what's basically a housing development, the most expensive houses get to overlook the boats, nice view for them not so nice for you being watched all the time. Start a fire and the complaints will roll in, start generator or run your engine and the sh1t will hit the fan. A real marina as the focal point of a posh housing development is a recipe for disaster like in Castlefields. K

  11. Perspex works well and there's a place not far from you that sells it. K http://www.plasticproductsuk.co.uk/Cheshire/Warrington/perspex-sheets.php
  12. I'm with Ditchcrawler I'd look into the cost of having it moved nearer home then shipped back when it's done. If it's a 6 hour round trip ad you're going to work 10 hour days then presumably there'll be accommodation costs because sleeping on the boat will be nigh on impossible. I refitted the kitchen on my boat and it's massively harder to do than a household kitchen, in a confined space like a boat you're always moving things to make room, it's like decorating the hall through the letterbox. I'm only 30 minutes away from my boat and I was constantly needing something from home. K
  13. As there is already a crane and planks in place (and have had for over 200 years) about 200 yards the other side of the M60 bridge then you have to wonder are they worried the filtration unit may fail or is it for the safety of the 600 houses they want to build than half a mile to the east. Currently permission has been refused but what Peel wants Peel gets round here. K
  14. I have both options on my boat and I much prefer sleeping in the cross bed option. I sleep much better when the rocking motion is head to foot (like you would rock a baby) rather than side to side as it generally is on a narrowboat. Being rocked head to toe is just so soothing compared to being rolled over in your sleep. Cross beds are in the minority so expect the usual "I've not got that so it's bad" replies, I have the option I so I vote with my head, which is across the boat, much better nights sleep but not one experienced by many I guess (so they'll have to hate it). K
  15. Here up north we have 365 days in a year and 366 in a leap year. I believe the planet Utapau has 351 days in a year (not too sure if they have leap years) but they have 27 hours a day so that may cancel it out. Possibly you could do your boating on its underground oceans. K https://utapau.wordpress.com/outer-rim/utapau/

  18. From their T&C's condition (o) whilst in transit pleasure craft are permitted to moor adjacent to the towpath for periods not exceeding 24 hours at one location, except where signed locally to the contrary. K http://www.bridgewatercanal.co.uk/media/BoatingPDFs/2014_Conditions_of_licensing.pdf
  19. Tell Dean that he's had a run in with the enforcement officer and that's not what he's been told, there never has been a no return policy but it looks like there is one now. K
  20. Here's a link to the moorings on the Bridgewater, your only real prospect is Urban Splash usually called New Islington Marina or Preston Brook. Unlike CRT Bridgewater mooring rules are 24 hours unless stated otherwise not the 14 days CRT allows so you have to move every day. You can go on the Bridgewater with a CRT licence but only for 7 days then no return for 28 days or it might be a year depends on who you talk to. K http://www.bridgewatercanal.co.uk/boating/mooring
  21. Below is a link to the installation guidelines which might be some use. Cast iron stoves do crack (well mine did) so I'd go for steel. Boatman stove have a lot of fans on here, I've never owned one but I've been on boats with them and they look good and seem to work well, they're made a couple of miles up the road from where I live so if I ever need a new stove that's where I'd go. K http://www.soliftec.com/Boat%20Stoves%201-page.pdf
  22. Some pretty god advise above but personally I'd get the work done and send him the bill. When it doesn't get paid go on-line and put in a claim in the small claims court (you can do this on-line) anything he/she says about what you've signed refer them to "unfair terms in consumer contracts regulations 1999", basically anything they say in the contract is invalid is void if they've not done the job professionally. Just because you signed a contract doesn't mean you've signed away your rights an incompetent survey is a "fault good or service" no two ways about it. Keep all the evidence, photos or whatever then hit him with a claim, put up or shut up, I doubt it'll ever get to court, he'll bottle it and pay up. K
  23. If the BSS runs out in a month I'd be very careful, if it fails the test it could cost a significant amount of money to get things put right and I trust you're getting a hull survey done?. Without a recent survey (often 5 or 8 years are the figures I've heard quoted) insurance may be limited, pricier or impossible to get. K
  24. Well you did have a thread deleted about 3 years ago title " "**** **** is a ****" " I won't mention the name of the member you were talking about or the euphemism you used to describe him as a front lady bottom. Suffice to say you did and in the early hours of the morning, I questioned the wisdom of doing this, although I didn't report it as I like your posts too much, I just advised you put down the bottle of Merlot (if I remember correctly) and delete the thread, Whatever happened or if you were told the thread **** **** is a **** no longer seems to be out there. K
  25. Here's a link the some useful info on NHS choices. A lot depends on you age, weight and general health and the skill of the surgeon. My mother had one done late 60's, in good health and a low BMI, she was home 2 days later, walking down to the shops in a week and after that she just forgot about it and lived a normal life with it until she died about 20 years later. As most people favour one leg when turning round or stepping things I guess it's better if it's not your favoured leg so you put less stress on it.
