  1. I've never been a member. Broke down once, called a local engineer. He was with me the following morning and fixed the boat within an hour. Far cheaper than joining RCR. If I was a member the would have sent the same guy. The only reason he wasn't with me faster was because he was on an RCR callout. Dave
  2. Get the blacking out and start painting before somebody fills the pound again. Dave
  3. I wouldn't put up with it. I'd call the police! Dave
  4. That's a big anchor! That's a huge boat! Got any piccies for me to drool over? I'm not sure I could deploy a 30kg anchor of that size without damaging the boat or myself. Dave
  5. I only spent what I could afford to lose. It was a lot of money which would have left me low on money for 15 years. I still knew it was a possibility that I would come across a thief. Thankfully I didn't. The paper trail on there boat was very good. Now I am selling the boat I have the same concerns but as a seller. Do what you can to protect yourself. Spread the deal over a period of weeks. Check the paper work. Get name and address of the seller and try and double check these are correct. Get car reg number. Anything and everything you can get will help. Get a photo of the person if possible even if it is a sneaky pic on your mobile. Dave
  6. I'm not sure it is the strongest part of the card security. You hand it over every time you pay for something on the internet or over the phone. The internet is a little more secure because you are most likely using a payment gateway rather than the company selling you the item. Over the phone could be to anybody and everybody. Check with you credit card company on whether cart should be asking for this. If it really is an issue they will sort cart out with a lot more force than you can. Dave
  7. That looks very expensive for a 57ft 2001 boat. I am about to put my cruiser stern of the same age and similar spec up for sale for a lot less than that. (About 14k less) If you do get round to looking at that boat be careful about what might be hidden behind all the clutter. Seems like large parts of panelling are concealed. Dave
  8. Thanks for all the info. I had New and Used come and see the boat this morning. Hoping to have it up for sale within a couple of weeks. Anybody after a 57ft cruiser stern? There are quite a few benefits for me to sell through New and Used. With a bit of luck I will be boat free for another few years though I think once a boater always a boater. Dave
  9. Just a quick note to thank you all for the help. I picked up a new window with latches already fitted from Grays windows this morning. Very well priced and very friendly. Dave
  10. Does anybody know what the typical brokerage costs are? Do they all run on a percentage base or are some of them fixed costs? I have details from one brokerage but I would like to make sure I am not about to chuck money down the drain. Finally do brokerages get a quicker sale at a higher price or should I be looking to use apollo duck instead? Please pm me if you don't want to put costs in a public message. Anybody working for a brokerage is welcome to get in touch as well; I know there are a couple on the forum. Cheers, Dave
  11. The avon is a lovely route. The w&b normally has winter stoppages. Worth checking before starting down tardebigge. It is important to do tardebigge at least once in your life though. The severn down to diglis is dull. You could try the droitwich but only one place to stop on it. Too many choices. Dave
  12. I've got a kipor 2000. Haven't used it much but couldn't do without it. I've only heard one Honda which was very small which I thought was really quiet. The rest are noisy no matter which brand you get. I do like the quiet of the countryside though. The gennie is just a necessary evil. Can't say I've ever thought about the fuel consumption. It is so low it just doesn't bother me. The only thing I'd love is electric start but that's not going to happen for the price of a low end gennie. Dave
  13. Thanks for all the info. I'll contact Gray's Boat Windows first as a window with latches already fitted would be the ideal situation. They are also not far from the boat which makes things easier. Is boat glass special in any way? The glass in the top 'hoppers' seems very flexible considering it's glass. Is there any extra flexibility in boat glass or is it just standard window glass? If I can't get glass with latches already fitted I'll buy a couple of the net. In the grand scale of owning a boat a couple of latches and postage isn't very expensive. At least that way I'll get two matching latches. Thanks for the offer BlueStringPudding. Dave
  14. I had a small window broken on the boat late last year. I did a temporary fix to make the boat weatherproof but I'm now ready to put a new window in place. Before I order the window I want to make sure I can get the latches for it to match the rest of the boat; the old latches disappeared at the time of it breaking. Does anybody know where I can get a couple of these latches? I've found one place online but they want £6 for delivery which is almost as much as the latches cost. They're 70mm long. If you've got a chandlery which you find them in and they're cheap I'd appreciate the cheaper postage costs if you can help. Cheers, Dave
  15. The part I found amusing was asking for money to fix things they can't see at the moment because they are under water. I've got no problems with them asking for money but when they don't even know it is broken shows a level of incompetence. Oh, that reminds me of their incompetence last year with taking my mooring payment and their incompetence with reporting my boat had been broken into. Respect where it us due but some of them are plain old halfwits. Isn't now a good time to sell mooring space at Upton to a trip boat company? Dave
  16. That's a bloody long boat. Where did you moor? Dave
  17. I'd have been in the canal up to my neck (well, maybe my waist) trying to fish it out. Well done limekiln. I've had great service from them as well. Dave
  18. I've used Trevor twice. First time he saved me buying a duff boat (it wasn't duff, it was just more than I wanted to take on). Second time all went well and I bought the boat. One benefit of using Trevor is that he is corgi registered. Helps with checking the gas properly. Though I spent a lot of money on the first survey with no boat at the end of it I felt much better equipped for looking at another boat. Who'd have thought that starting the engine would show up problems immediately? Dave
  19. This restriction is on my mobile, laptop and android tablet so I know it's not device related. The router has been turned off and on again so I know it's not the router (and it's the same router I've been using for years). My broadband provider can access the site fine. Somebody has blocked me but I'm not sure who. I guess I could try some sort of trace route to see how far that gets. Might give me a better idea (and more ammo). Dave
  20. Hi, I've lost access to the forum from home. It's like I've been completely blocked from the site. I can't view it at all. I've tried the IP address as I thought it might be a lookup issue but that doesn't work either. If I google the site and click on a link from google I still can't get through. Have I been blocked deliberately? I've contacted my broadband provider and they say it's not them. Can anybody help? Dave
  21. I love droitwich. The basin is quiet and secure. Lovely park for the kids to play in. Waitrose gives me the opportunity to spoil the missus a little. Another mooring spot would be good though. Dave
  22. Had noisy kids the past couple of times i'very been at the racecourse. While they do no harm to me or my boat I ignore them. Still annoying they are so noisy. I'm pretty sure summer holidays have made them worse. Dave
  23. Why have you put a photo of the boat out of the water? Is there something wrong with it? Is it still out of the water? My thought on views is that I don't know how the duck counts views. When I was looking at the photos I went back and forth to view each photo. Does each back result in a click? If I view the boat again tomorrow does that result in another view? Other than that I suspect your boat could be overpriced (though I'm no expert on boat pricing). Though it is a nice clean and tidy boat there is nothing which jumps out at me. How about a floorplan? Picture of the bed? What sort of diesel heating? Dave
  24. Yeah, i know Andy. Very nice guy. He caught a lift back to work on my boat on Saturday. I can't vouch for his work but he does appear on Google. Search for Andy Edwards dunhampstead. Dave
