  1. Thanks..understood...I like to think jim im a intrested party around Marsworth, when I stop there for a week and wander up and down thinking about that film the bargee,,I carry my windlass in my small daybag and help at the locks, keeping the leaky one shut at the bottom..I generally do that every where.. I have till october before I come back.I assume once on the summit all boats have to continue across and down marsworth, Thanks
  2. as much as I look someone up and down who has there hands in there pockets,"without waiting to be dismissed and saluting "???I do know IM now on civi street. recently the way the workforce are treated in BW in London,I do get the feeling BW blue shirts have gave up hope and appear not to care....I care about any water loss..because its a shocking waste of a resource, imagine the reaction of people who have to walk miles to find any water in some places in the world. some boaters are selfish and when other boaters stand by and do not condone bad behaviour they are as bad as them....its easy to do nothing.I like to think about other people, who love locking in camden, with people milling around. one day,and maybe soon those who abuse our watersways will find the cut empty, fish dead, business out of trade,no more water....for periods.. just a thought there's camera at camden locks
  3. find a veteran solo boater and your learn to your delight..you could go to the area you wish to travel on.beg/borrow a windlass and ask at locks if you could help...look and learn...or chat to people, and you may find some boaters able to show or explain things...lots of people jump straight in..volunteer to be crew for a day. my first words from a chap who does boating everyday mostly.."easy does it"..I crusie all hours all over the place in all conditions, and have learned far more than any course because its not possible to put all there is to learn in a course....safety first, then go for it..ask lot of question from as many boaters you can talk too..do the course if you like, your get there in the end.ive seen people do some stupid things even after doing a course.. When I did my first tidal river.. the advice from a solo boater who has done the trent for 30 yrs just kept repeating its self over and over, whilst in the lock waiting to go out..of course your learning needs to be done when things are in your favour in the first instances.then you build confidence.....also there are some great female solo boaters out there to learn from of all ages, who are some times better to learn from..enjoy yourself and before long your find a way which you like......go for it..."easy does it" saftey first.
  4. Recieved a automated e-mail, regarding Tring so there is now crossing,on those two weekends, which as I understood the day before it was for urgent traffic etc... SO IN REALITY ARE WE ALLOWED ACROSS OR NOT...YES OR NO PLEASE...I WISH THOSE IN COMMAND WOULD ISSUSE CLEAR COMMUNICATIONS..I.E IN BLACK AND WHITE..SIMPLE'S(WHERES THAT MERE CAT GONE). I will be there for the 9th ready or not.
  5. Yes it was me who came through late at night,I found camden gushing with water..the two top locks had both sets of bottom gates open and all eight paddles fully open.all the lock paddles on all of camdens locks were all up both ends. I shut the locks up..and continued to little venice and moored,at around 9am I spoke to a young BW workers who was checking the bins at the water point and I asked if they had any knowledge of this...reply no..he then walked off. These locks need to be locked and paddles locked down at night, every night all year..because there is a lot of abuse regarding those locks....I travel across camden at night as I have total freedom and control with out idiots getting in my way or distracting me.....I find it frightening to see such a criminal waste of water.. I dont believe this is a one off... Sheriff
  6. good some real news...slowly slowly move near to Tring..lost a few weeks out of my 10 month cruise, Thanks for the info Jim
  7. Thanks very much.will await any further updates latter this week
  8. Is there any new information regarding the possibility of passage across the summit in march..as was suggested earler on,that bw would review the situation end of feb. currently waiting for chersty lock and benson lock on the thames to come off stoppage.as that is looking like my route round...would prefer Tring route...if there chance. Thanks
  9. Archimedes fuel boat just leaving Kensal heading westbound cheques are accpeted for those who asks. also card reader . have a nice day update for those who have just pm me. Archimedes is still heading westbound approaching Greenford,,very busy..
  10. Because some of us have nice houses here to live in or rent out when we are not c c or go home while we moor for two weeks. and Londons not a slum.
  11. 100 percent, been there done it,seen it...and sometimes padlocked to the visitor moorings to boot.
  12. exactly that..though with the K&A and the London Boaters...before long they will be the majority
  13. BW LEEDS PO BOX. 162 LS9 1AX....Will take around 3 weeks to process..done it lots of times for friends
  14. I have no specific problems with IWA and Peter Scott comes over as well read and articulate, and would make a good candidate. However I am suspicious that IWA will have 4 members. Some of those who stand up now..I have never seen or heard about before...unlike Mr Alan Fincher who knows no bounds and is considered selfless in all canal & rivers activities by many folk far and wide. good luck Peter... But my vote is for ALAN FINCHER
  15. My Thoughts also.I did ask that because normaly the chap is always going on about a law change is required for this or that. So I was surprised what he said, and he did say how this can be done and why...too tired at the moment to remember.. Ive also noticed Alperton in London to limehouse mon-fri there is a newbie doing a patrol everyday..regardless of who you are..ie cc or cm or on an offical mooring.
  16. i HAVE BEEN INFORMED ,WHEN CRT COMES INTO EFFECT...SEPERATE FROM YOUR LICENCE FEE...IF YOU OVERSTAY.YOU WILL FIND OUT WITH A FINE.WHICH YOU HAVE TO PAY OR GO TO COURT AND NO PATROL NOTICE ISSUSED BEFORE HAND TO SAY MOVE..... ALSO i WAS INFORMED THIS METHOD WILL BE EXPLAINED WHEN CRT COMES INTO EFFECT. NOT SURE IF THIS IS FOR London IN THE FRIST INSTANCE...THATIS WHAT i WAS TOLD FROM A SOURCE
  17. I heard they make you do work experience for as many days as you have overstayed..I hope you like lots and lots of TEA...you get a tea cert at the end. make sure you bring lots of crossword puzzles and a comfy pillow for your chair. oh and some good hand/face cream for all the time your spend in the tea boat, very hot in those things(tea boat is code for work boat). . The most important issuse in order is to make sure you buy a License Then talk to your patrol office, not towpath checker.and to discover who this is on your actualy section: contact your area office. Amost all Patrol officer are ex law enforcement and are not black and white in dealing with your request..just becarefull about pining them down on an grey area answer.if you have someone with you..one to one is best.
  18. same here...back on lee now for two weeks so I dont overstay. catch up with you in a few weeks jenlyn
  19. informing boaters when posting licences or by e-mail..the need then to ensure locks are closed and not to waste water. its not just about the water table...all leaks amount up over the combined system..and if people over the year, take care to ensure locks are shut behind them..it hepls to lessen the amount of water need to be extracted. im out more than most a good solid ten months of the year and see the waste water, its is a lot. the other two months I just cruise around London...and we have lock gates here which open up after you closed them. so I have to go back and close them up by letting a touch of water out to close them up...also i am not selfish like some and try within reason to share, flights for example... also I wish to see people who are intrested in the canal system run it. the outlook is not good at the moment
  20. The cost of a coffer dam 'which you quote' is buttons, short change.BW need to hurry up. A wake up call to boaters...yesterday going across London for example the Bw boat in the distance left every lock wide open....so its not a wake up call, boaters everywhere who leave gates open are just lazy and dont care. BW included...I asked them when I caught up..no answer, shoulders shrugged. 3 years ago BW knew there was going to be a problem at Tring and has had plenty of oppurtunity to take action.BW are not the sort of people who have had the long term future of your canal system at heart. within there walls, the management spent far to much time..in meetings just to have a meetings.theres so much mistrust amongst them...London has a drought situation on its doorstep..I was told yesterday by a BW person....there is a reservoir(brent i think)which is collected rain water..so they will connect pumps to use that..in the near future...buys some time. shut the system down in winter to allow proper maintance and to carry out major improvements.eventually the goverment will have to provide funds,so much money has beed wasted over the years............apart from that...im off for a late breakfast.
  21. will check tomorrow. not been used much..about 12 hrs from new...3yrs old. Thanks
  22. well done...you also have a very nice boat, saw you yesterday come out the marina at willowtree
  23. when I checked inside no insects.some times it will be ok for as long as it's on then other times a few seconds . no not intrested in cash.if i decide to dispose of it,I would give it away, and inform you first
