  1. german shepherds are alsations the breed comes from alsas...the name was changed in the war as "german shepherd" wasnt a popular name...malinois are nothing like gsd temperment.....they are much much sharper, more athletic higher drive...just like a working collie with a pit bull bite.yes shock horror malis have pitbull in them not widely spoken about it was introduced in the 80's on the continent to increase drive, bite strength and stamina....for a number of years in this country the low drive weak nerved stuff has been bred for show pet market (blame the kennal club and do gooders) malinois were bred as a protection patrol breed and thats how they should stay....the true breed standard and temperment will be lost just like 99% of gsd's...im not saying mali's arent loyal loving dogs they are,,they are a high drive working dog....
  2. its all changed now....on site at 7.30 till 4.30 there working 6 days on 2 off ...7 weeks before they get a weekend off...bw have sold off all the tools and infastructure so now everything is rented in....risk assment before getting out of the van, clueless engineers that havent a clue....its turned into a joke run by monkeys...the man in charge did such a fine job with the railways its no serprise hes on the canals...
  3. they are becoming popular with the scum bags...train a mali in defence and youve got a dangerous dog.....mark my words two or three years they will be on the DD list.......have a look at all the dog dealing sites and read the adverts....... if your in the trade and know the breed....i own a knpv bitch called "punk"
  4. for god sake have a greenie on me .................iv never known such an upside down backwards way of stating the facts...you always manage to bring a smile to my face........
  5. i want to put the engine into a boat and be able to run it...im not really after a new engine just something that will start and run reliably.... these pics are all of the same bearing...iv only got number 3 out so far ill go to the workshop tommorow and remove the other two.......
  6. from what your saying it will be because you are a dominant person maybe without realising it??yes its not just facial expression body language too...its one of my pet hates people leaving there dogs loose next to there boats unsupervised.....dogs are living things not machines and they dont always play by our rules...the favourite one is "hes never bitten before".......any dog should never be left unadended in a public place...
  7. iv started to strip one of my jp engines today. the big end bearings dont look great to me, they seem dull and have a few grooves in them when you run your finger over them......what are my options as regards replacing them, are they availible as new old stock or is it better to have them re metalled??will i need to take the crank out if im going down the re nmetling route??any idea of cost?
  8. the dog was scared of you.......showing teeth..hackles up..lots of noise is a weak dog thats afraid....a confident dog would of not seen you as a threat and if it was a confident dog showing you your place in the pack it would of bitten you calmly so you knew you were beneath the dog....being a pack leader is very subtle its not about spraying water choke chains etc etc...a dog picks up on facial expression far more than spoke language...the biggest problem is that people choose a dog for what it looks like not for its temperament...the kennal club are doing a great job of breeding dogs to be harth rugs so they fit in with peoples lives rather than keeping the breed as it was meant to be.....mali's are a prime example...amazing working dogs that make awful pets in the wrong hands...so much so iv spayed my working bitch so i cant be party to breading the next must have dangerous breed...
  9. what posts have you read on here that say a servay isnt worth the paper they are written on?? if you dont have a comprehensive understanding of narrowboats youd be a fool not to have one.....the advice given on this forum is always proceed with caution...hence the replies youve had on this post so far......an extra £50 for the servayer to look at the engine is money well spent in your situation....buying a decent boat without hastle can be the start of an amazing adventure you will be entering into a world of many contrasts..the summer will soon be here and the canal will awaken again for another season..........hope it all goes well for you and you enjoy your life changing adventure..
  10. phil it wouldnt matter how long you had the dogs mate, you do all the ground work hand the dog back and in weeks the dogs back to how it was..people humanise animals and sadly dogs are dogs and live by a fairly simple set of rules.start treating them like people and the problems begin..all four of my dogs are trained to bite and do there job very well.there default is to be calm and not aggressive in any way untill commanded to be aggressive
  11. cello tvs are great..they draw 16w 12v
  12. iv trained many truly aggressive dogs and they can fairly easily be trained not to bite or show aggression, BUT they need to be kept at the rank in the pack the problems restart because the owners are not pack leaders and this starts the dog trying to find its place in the pack again in many years of training highly driven dogs iv only come accross two or three bad dogs
  13. that aint going to happen now is it....spoilt little rich boy will put his cwdf membership into liquidation and just start another account.......its not in his nature to do the right thing....
  14. i think the photos dont do the boat justice..theres no way thats someones first attempt at a build, the 5th photo would give me some concern as there looks to be some rot next to the cant??....6 weeks would have that shell finished easily..there looks to be the cabin to finish and some d section to weld on....recon it will look far better in the water than it does on the bank £3800 is a steel
  15. i train patrol/protection dogs mainly as a hobby these days...no dog should bite without a command to bite.......1991 danderous dogs act......any dog in a public place that you find intimidating or threatening is deemed dangerous it doesnt have to bite you........there is always two sides to every story...the two hours in hospital wasnt neciserily due to the dog as you wernt up to date with your tetenus....you do have the right to use your bike on the tow path without the worry of being bitten....... 99% of the time its down to poor dog handling rather than the dog....if the dogs nippy i dont see why people dont muzzle there dogs it would save so much hasstle.........if you report it the dog will probably end up with an ASBO issued .....
  16. we were going to go for bunk beds but the mrs damanded she had the top bunk but with her being 28 stone i didnt think it was going to be such a great idea.
  17. that all depends on your bmc (boat man cabin) now doesnt it???
  18. if my boat had of sold by now id of blown some cash buying it,
  19. i know its not a boat engine but its a lovely conversion http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ruston-Hornsby-5HR-22HP-Mounted-on-the-back-of-1956-Green-Goddess-/161196013062?hash=item258807f606 cheapish jp??? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lister-JP3-Diesel-Engine-/111259194857?pt=UK_BOI_FarmingEquipment_RL&hash=item19e79095e9 russell newdeli http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Russell-Newbury-D2-RN-NOT-DM2-or-Lister-JP2-see-my-other-narrowboat-engines-/111260906595?pt=UK_BOI_FarmingEquipment_RL&hash=item19e7aab463 ruston http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antique-generating-set-/221356796970?pt=UK_BOI_FarmingEquipment_RL&hash=item3389e4ac2a lister cs , we use one of these to run the vacum and washing machine..lovely piece of kit going up in value every year http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lister-CS6-diesel-generator-/201019673793?pt=UK_BOI_FarmingEquipment_RL&hash=item2ecdb4ccc1
  20. ooohhhhh get you nick.....arent hudson boats as common as springers were in the 70's and 80's??? youll be saying next youve got a bmc
  21. we layed 3x1 pieces of wood on the floor then then the same over those, makes like a ladder that you can still vacume round then put the mattress on those...if you turn the mattress every time you change your bedding you wont have a problem (depending how riffy you are that is )
  22. dont judge a book by its???????????? paint job???
  23. the vents in your storage locker need to be above or on the water line.....get a rachet strap and ratchet the boat over as much as possible and cut some more vents or extend the old ones.....it will be daft to use a 240v power tool so close to the water or listen to what iv said in this post without atleast putting some pics up so we can get a firm idea of what you are saying though... a dry locker will be better than one thats half submerged....
  24. shiney, rusty hippy hutch sinker or stinker if there paying a liecence it all makes the waterways viable.....i worry sometimes its all becoming an elitest playground....iv met some great people with all sorts of boats in all sorts of conditions........
