  8. Sounds like a plan, I'll pm some measurements for a price if that's cool, I especially like the sound of a pint.. Funny enough, both you and wiggly came to mind however... I wouldn't want to distract! (I will still pm her though) Noted!
  9. Hello Amy, I rented, Illegally for four years, I understood the risks that LM has mentioned and took the gamble. I'm not prepared to either recommend or dismiss it because there are some compromises that you will have to make which challenges the standard landlord / tenancy relationship. First off, you don't have security of tenure on a boat, less so if it's illegally rented on a leisure moorings or a cc license. Secondly, things go wrong on boats more than they do in a home. Most of us have excepted that as the way it is, keep a load of tools and perversely enjoy tinkering with things. However, don't expect a landlord who will come around every time a fuse pops or pump starts making noises in the night. This forum helps with that stuff! Finally, it won't take long before you realise how much you are spending on a boat that isn't yours, yet you have developed an attachment to because of the work you have done on it. If, like us you can get over these things then you will have a great time and probably end up falling in love with your neighbours boat and buying it.... As LM has said, just understand the ins and outs. Good luck
  10. So, I am in charge of doing up our bedroom. I have fitted a new bed, now 4ft 6 instead of 4ft. My next job is to paint and then I need to find some curtains. Does anybody here know of someone who would make some up for us? I need 3 pairs for the side windows and one pair for the bow door windows at the end. I would like them lined if possible and I would supply the material. Obviously happy to pay and can forward full measurements. Happy to consider online companies if we'll recommended but do want them made as the ones I see on ebay hurt my eyes! Cheers all
  11. Over the years I have engineered it so that Ms Wanted sits closest to the fire. Anyone who has met the aforementioned Ms Wanted will agree that the amount of talking that she is capable of is more than adequate to shift hot air from one end of the boat to the other. The only down side is that I am pretty sure this system costs me more than a hundred quid!
  12. Good work Mike, I like that. I get a bit of smoke draw back at times but not enough to warrant your device. I think you are right about the burner size to flue ratio, my mate had a whacking great big stove in his workshop which he needed to extend the flue for the same reasons. Maybe you should put a patent on that...
  13. I posed this question before, 'what would you do if your glass broke whilst the fire was on and going well' Carl came up with the answer use a 'raosting tin and sash cramps until all dies down' Sounds like the best idea to me. Not sure I would want to replace glass when stove is proper hot...
  14. which would explain the unusually high cases in Brentford
  15. If you use the biggest drill bit you have that should help, go slow and not to heavy. If not, do you have a grinder? I have also had a bit of luck with a dremel and grinding head for this sort of thing,,, good luck
  16. Maybe it was empty and he was taking it somewhere to fill up?
  17. Just to set the scene, renting a boat to live on is seldom done above board due to the insurance, licence and BSC that is required. I don't have an opinion on the rights and wrong of this and have rented a boat for four years previous to buying. Just make sure that your mate understands the reality. Gumtree is a good start.
  18. Good work Nick, a perfect description of community spirit.
  19. Crossed post with Richard, we concur!
  20. Get rid of the burn cream, use fresh water and wrap the burn with cling film and get to a and e if need be. Rubbing anything into a burn increases the chance of infection. You could have some bandages and tape and we'll as eye wash. One thing that I use is spray on skin, works a treat instead of plasters. Might be worth buying a ready made kit?
  21. Not sure what you mean Sue, I walked from Hanwell to my home mooring which is opposite the guaging lock. It was all looking spick and span. Below that is the Brent leading onto the Thames which moves fast enough to shift any junk.
  22. The weed cutters have been down our way, we are being dredged in October and the rubbish seems to have been sorted along with grass cutting and lock / bollard painting.
