Typically,you can buy secondhand a 25KVA 3p diesel genset for around what a dealer would want for a used bare motor............a 3p TEFC motor can be found for a little over scrap price.............the speed controll would have to be new ,but a keen hobbyist could certainly build one with components from China...........as mentioned ,you do have to be a bit careful with 415V ..............I know someone who replaced all the DC electrics in a Coles crane with 3p 415v ,but it wasnt a success ...........the Coles DC system is very sophisticated for something designed pre WW2
  3. Many thanks again for your input. Ive done a bit of research and wasn’t aware of the difference in VHF ticket. I m sure that won’t be the biggest hurdle. I will definitely join the barge forum as you mentioned. The rules seem to be a bit inconsistent in France I’ve been made believe. My daughter has an up to date STCW ticket which includes the first aid and fire fighting. Hopefully that’s similar. Mine are expired but could be done anywhere anytime.( for a costly sum😌) Extension Grande plaisance, I believe this is followed up by some practical training? Someone told me you need 9 hours of training.
  4. My theory is that the conclusion of not painting the baseplate comes before the reason. For example, mine isn't done because the yard that built the boat didn't have the facilities at the time to do it. I think that's probably not uncommon. A bit of mental gymnastics later and "it would probably be a waste anyway!" There's also the precedent from working boats where the bottoms were often cut out and replaced.
  5. Reducing the cable down to fit in a 6mm crimp sounds like a bodge but a decent one. Nice idea! My only concern is if the 10mm sheath fits in the 6mm mc4 housing. Think I've got some unused connectors I can look at. The solid reducers sounds like a good idea but I'm not sure it will play well with the crimp unfortunately. I didn't calculate potential losses. I believe I was getting quite high volt drop with an old setup with a short run but I was running 4x 375w in parallel - so quite high current. Thanks for the help, some solid input here 👍

  7. None of your examples there are charities, apart from Save the Children. What from the list do you count as "similar", if you don't want to include all types of charity? Well nobody was going to be offered inaugural management position, or even any subsequential one, if they point out the blindingly obvious. 1/ That golden donation money trees are as mythical as unicorns on sunny uplands. 2/ Stabilising and maintaining an increasingly geriatric network, and one with significantly increasing demands, including climate change, would require funding levels distinctly in excess of general rates of inflation. CART management are also incredibly constrained in their submissions to government in case they provoke retaliatory funding reductions. They will be very well aware of threats made by government politicians to both the BBC, and various NHS employees, if they become overly critical of government.

  12. But you are not looking at 'similar charities' that it why my 1st comparison was with the NT. Just taking the top 100 you are looking at all markets - no similaritities. What is the CEO of Tesla salary, what is the CEO of a £100m engineering firm, what is the salary of a CEO of a merchant bank, what is the salary of the CEO of Save the Children.. If you want to claim you are comparing 'similar charities' at least make some effort to find reasonably similar examples.

  17. You're picking examples -- not at random! -- to try and make your point, there as just as many (or more) showing just the opposite. For the top 100 charities on the list --with many familiar names! -- the median CEO pay was £205k; the lowest was around £150k, 21 were paid more than £300k. Parry was on £233k. For those 100 charities the mean number of employees on £60k+ was 84. For CART it was 87. So the claims that Parry is overpaid or CART have more highly-paid employees compared to other similar charities are both shown to be wrong, according to actual numbers... 🙂

Oh look, here they are for 2021: https://www.thirdsector.co.uk/charity-pay-study-2021-biggest-earners/management/article/1713966 CART is #40 on the list, income £216m, CEO pay £233k (0.1%), 87 staff on >60k. Now look at charities further up the table, all of who have higher CEO pay. Many are smaller than CART (but some are bigger), many have more highly-paid employees (but some have fewer). Overall there doesn't seem anything to suggest that either Parry is overpaid or that CART is stuffed with overpaid employees compared to other similar charities.
  22. It’s particularly long because as well as the M5 carriageway it goes under the slip road onto the M5 Southbound and the exit slipway Northbound. I still feel it would have been a better option as flooding could pose a problem on the intended course. It’s not I don’t believe 14 foot wide though. I’ve not met cows there but have trodden in their reside in the dark middle of the transit.

  25. £223,000 in 2021/22 which is apparently considerably higher than other CEOs of Charities. The remuneration during the year for Richard Parry, Chief Executive, comprised a salary of £195,750 (2021/22: £195,000), pension allowance of £16,874 (2021/22: £16,636), car allowance of £9,768 (2021/22: £9,768) and benefits in kind of £2,111 (2021/22: £1,936), totalling £224,503 (2021/22: £223,340).
  26. My domestic price was 93p at our boat club. We aren't looking to profit from it so I'd say 103p is a very keen price.
