GRP boats with diesels are real shakers thats what put me off when i tried a few, bought an inboard petrol after that, smooth and quiet.

I guess that depends what sort of  boats a what sort of diesel engines you are talking about .

Not much shaking going on here  otherwise the image would be blurred

Agreed - properly set up diesels and no vibration. Don't judge the whole barrel by one bad apple.

No vibration here - 6 miles off the Norfolk coast. Tug recovering 1km oil pipes washed off a tug on the way from Norway to North Africa.

Partly submerged and a major risk to shipping.

That's an impressively calm sea, not to mention the impressively large pipe. What date was that?

If it was recent do you mind  if I use that photo on other forums?

It was Early August 2017.

We were En-route from Hull to Wells-Next-The-Sea

When the tugs crew were waving at us and the Guard boats chattering away on the radio, we didn't realise that in fact there had been an exclusion-zone established all around the recovery operation, and we were sailing thru' the middle of it - bit naughty really !!!

There had been an accident a few weeks previously and a 'barge load' of oil pipes (up to 15 feet diameter and between 500m and 1000m) had been 'lost'. There was a huge recovery operation as many of them were floating just on, or just below the surface and a major hazard to all shipping.

Feel free to use the photo.

As the recovery operation got under way, once they had found the 'four' pipes and there were still more floating, and some were much longer than the reported 480mts, it turned out to be a bigger recovery operation that 1st thought.

Agreed, those type of boats will be smooth but the average guy looking at 25/27 foot Seamaster with a Perkins or similar for 5-7k is probably going to be a bit less refined than that. Another example of you get what you pay for.

They can also be quiet and smooth.

Only a few weeks earlier we had cancelled our trip from Hull to Wells.  Perhaps fortunate we did.

Sooner or later our paths will cross.

We are hoping to get off to Wells (from Newark) middle of this month and have 2-4 weeks cruising.

We said we'll get to Trent falls and either turn left and go to York, or turn right and go to Wells - depends on the following couple of weeks forecast.

Weather is supposed to be staying settled for this month and most of next.

According to last nights Beeb 10 day forecast, the models are now all over the place for next weekend onwards as there are 3  potential tropical storms/hurricanes heading towards the carribean so will mess with the Jet stream when they get there, which then will affect us. It's a total guess now what the weather will be like 2nd half of September. Lets hope it continues as it is.
