Skin tank bleed valve

Featured Posts

I am not sure how an auto bleed valve would cope with a pressurised cooling system at up to about 1 bar, 15 PSI.

If it needs bleeding frequently enough to be thinking of fitting an auto bleed valve then the underlying problem needs addressing rather than just covering it up. If you only have the manifold type expansion tank then a remote one may prevent air entering the system  each time the system cools down. If its combustion gasses then it needs sorting before you have a major overheat and  potentially expensive damage.

Auto bleed valves of the compressed cardboard disc type are cr@p.  They either leak or they don't bleed.

If you want automatic  venting and have an unpressurised system just run a vent pipe with an open  from where the bleed valve is end to a point above the top of the header tank.

With a pressurised system you would need to lead the vent pipe into a Tee just below the  header tank, assuming this is where the pressure cap is.
