Jim Riley
. Anyone in the vicinity? There's a flotilla coming up from Manchester. The event on Thursday is on my moorings. https://summitsup.org/ There's also a Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/events/176553703121851/?ti=as

Iain_S
I disagree. Looks better with swan, IMO.
Jim Riley
Well, yes but they need water to get a flotilla of 12 boats up the hill, might be best to be nice to cart.
Ray T
Many years ago when we reached the Summit a lady came out of the lock keeper's house and sold us a brass plaque with Rochdale Canal, Summit Pass and a picture of the lock house on it. Not a very good picture, top row third from left, are these still available? Edited June 1, 2018 by Ray T
Jim Riley
Got one myself in 2002 from Lockie Ray who lives there still, though he now drives wagons. In 1983 I canoed from Smithybridge to Sowerby Bridge and back over 4 days. The old lady rushed out and sold us a couple of day passes for our boats, she hadn't seen a boat go by in years. Presume it was the same lady? Tho possibly it was Mrs Ray that you met?

It was with Shire Cruisers, the second boating holiday we had ever done.
JohnEW2912
The plaques are certainly still available, as we got one as we went over the Summit at Easter. A young woman and her small daughter came out from a house at the summit to offer us one. I've no idea whether they were related to Ray though. My son collects them and he said that it was quite a bit more expensive than others he had bought in the last few years, but I can't remember how much.
