I always thought Jelly-Beans must have some use - you have found it.

They don't look any bigger than your pipe-fenders.

Personally I think they are a 'lot small', by the time a bow at the water line has squashed those against your hull the top of the bow would be thru' your sides.

There is always the possibility of alternative consequences - a boater may think - "that boats protected, I can run up until I hit him then use him to pivot on in the turn"

You've misunderstood. They're not to fend boats off. Try reading the thread.

I've been allocated a new mooring across from my previous one. It's a nice spot but the guy who used to moor here told me he was hit by turning boats a few times and he was only here for a year. Apparently the boat that was here before him had a window taken out!

So what's the best way to prevent being hit by turning boats and protecting mine? Would hanging tyres down the side be a good idea, or would that just encourage boats to bounce off me?

Apologies if I have misread your original post, but it reads to me that you want something to :

a) prevent your boat being hit (as the boat previously in that spot was)

b ) protecting yours for when you are hit.
