felixthecat
Hi all, I am looking for a canal boat holidays with widebeam boat instead of narrowboat. I have done some google search and seems like most companies only offer narrowboat. Can you recommend any widebeam boat holiday company? Is it quite difficult to operate widebeam? especially when going through a lock? Thanks. Cheers, Felix Edited March 25, 2017 by felixthecat

Cheers, Felix Hi Felix the cat, no its not hard to navigate a lock on a widebeam. If you want to hire for a holiday, Moonboats at Honeystreet, Wiltshire on the Kennet and Avon canal have a small fleet of luxury widebeams to hire. If you Google them you should get a hit for their website.

I have read that Kennet and Avon canal is quite difficult for beginners because there are many locks, so not sure if it is wise for me to hire those. The Kennet and Avon can be challenging in parts but it is very beautiful and we'll worth a visit. Many novices have a go and any reputable hire boat company will do a handover, demonstrating lock use and how to cruise the boat. Shame July is booked, they are very popular boats to hire, we see them regularly in the season. Good luck with your search.

Thanks, I am looking for a widebeam because I am planning the holiday for two elderlies. It will be their first time experiencing boating and I would like to find boat that is more spacious and perhaps more luxurious and give them a good impression. It looks like Moonboat is the only one that offer widebeam....

The only one that springs to mind is Silsden Boats, I have never used them but they look OK. My wide beam experience is skippering a trip boat rather than hire boats. Or may be hire a cruiser on the Thames or even The Broads
