Plank Lane lift bridge, Leigh on the L&L

Went through today. They are still letting boats go through at 2pm each day. The staff said this will continue for six to eight more weeks because they will need a road closure order for the busy road so they can make the permanent repair.

In addition the pontoons are all in place now at the adjacent new small marina. The whole Plank Lane area now has many more boats mooring around there.

A very selfish few are still leaving their rubbish in their offside mooring spots in the trees.

Thanks for upate, we will be through there in a couple of weeks.

Glad it is looking more alive around there, but litter does seem to have been a problem for some time.

Pontoons finally!

That location was ready for them when we passed through in 2011!

I've seen rubbish left on the off side last week, looked more like boaters rubbish, foam mattresses etc. There were several boats there and on the bottom end of the Rochdale 9 that look like they have washed up from the Bridgewater, seeking refuge from Sonny, no doubt, and some of these have moored on the offside, with rubbish around them.

So how long do they keep it open for? Long enough for all the boats on either side to go through? We're due to go through to Liverpool in a couple of weeks so we'll need to plan carefully to make sure we don't get stuck.

Yes, just be in the queue by two! They open it once for boats coming south; close it briefly for the traffic and then open again for the northbound.

And as for litter; there's plenty of boater stuff dotted about on the offside. If you want to get rid of a bit of household rubbish while waiting, there are plenty of litter bins along the road towards the new estate.

Great - reading round I suspected that would be the case... So got to time things so we spend time in Wigan (found a good amount of extremely good Real Ale in the town centre recently) rather than stuck in the middle of nowhere.
