What size fuse between 160A alternator and 675A batteries?

I seem to recall Snib stating on here several years ago that disconnecting an alternator load while it was working hard is more of a theoretical danger than one which he has seen manifested. But I could well be mis-remembering.

Hopefully he'll be along in due course.

I don't like the idea of a fuse or an isolator in the alternator charge circuit but if we must comply with the BSS then a fuse is preferable.

Seen one post reporting a likely failed/cooked alt due to idolator being inadvertantly opened:

Alternator wiring direct to Battery

If a fuse must be fitted I'd prefer a high value for short circuit protection say a 500A Megafuse. Less chance of being inadvertantly blown due to dropped spanner incident. :help:
